Excited to share new preprint by PhD candidate Anna Rönnfeldt „Climatic niche conservatism in non-native plants depends on introduction history and biogeographic context“ highlighting context dependency in climate niche shifts of species introduced in multiple world regions doi.org/10.1101/2025...

Our dog will never understand why Germany allows private fireworks for New Year. All the noise and dust and garbage 🙈🙉 Stay safe for the new year 🎊🤩

Big shout-out to PhD candidate Valén Holle for her new #preprint doi.org/10.1101/2024... assessing #uncertainty in SDM-based #blacklists of #invasive species related to #species & environmental data & #SDM algorithm. #Pacific #plants 1/2

Had an exciting week at #BES2024 in Liverpool. Among my highlights: workshop on #scenario development by @drnickisaac.bsky.social @alazurko.bsky.social and thematic session on #biodiversity futures. And of course crazy Xmas jumper day - thanks to my team who made sure I have a Xmas jumper with me 🎄

If you want to learn about our research, check our lab's website here: www.uni-potsdam.de/en/ibb-macro... We study biodiversity dynamics under global change, mostly terrestrial, and aim to improve modelling tools to forecast range & community shifts, and invasive species & disease spread.

We #postdoc or #sabbatical funding available for three fellows in #macroecology, global change ecology & biodiversity modelling - in Potsdam/Germany. 1st fellow got to be a female researcher but fellows can overlap. Funded stipend for 6-24months can be split into several shorter stays. more info 👇

Absolutely amazing how nature is taking its place back if left alone: here is a literal forest on top of a WW2 ruin in #Beelitz Germany - #BeelitzHeilstädten

Main drivers of positive trends were fecundity and juvenile survival. Populations could stabilise within the next 30 years (but only under the assumption that environmental change won't dramatically alter habitat suitability or demography). 2/n

New paper on spatiotemporal population dynamics of #RedKite in Switzerland. We inversely fitted #RangeShifter to long-term monitoring data. This hugely reduced prediction #uncertainty. esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/... 1/n

birds breeding in higher latitude showed higher range unfilling, larger birds were more likely to expand range. High-latitude species had lower niche expansion (pot. indicating lower extinction debts) and open habitat species had higher niche unfilling & dispersal limitation 3/n

#niche unfilling results from #dispersal limitation & niche expansion from competitive release or #extinction debts. Results indicate that range shifting US and Eur #birds are not dispersal limited but show delayed extinctions from newly unsuitable areas 2/n
