There are lots of things that the bible sends mixed messages on - it's why theological debate exists.

But the one thing the christian bible is pretty consistent on is, "fuck them rich people."

Some of you might be like, "wait, there's a fire escape plan type thing for spiralling?" and yes! It varies depending on the person, and a therapist can help you figure out what works best for you, but I can help with some of the classics.
Coping skill checkpoint do you remember what to do if you start spiralling

if you hate the writer, do not share the writer's articles. people clicking on the articles is how the writer gets paid. "how do THEY still have a job in journalism, when so many talented people are being laid of?!" you, because of you. you are why.

"I write for the New York Times, and I can assure you that we've never buried stories on behalf of powerful people, many of those powerful people being part of NYT management. We only publish what's fit to print, like Zohran's application to Columbia that was leaked by a white nationalist"
I don't understand why people have to concoct wild conspiracy theories in order to critique the NYT. I say this as someone who writes for them: there is plenty to critique without making up wild scenarios and insisting they're true!

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

The DJT Overton Window:

“I didn’t do it.”

“The evidence that I did it is fake.”

“I did it, but it wasn’t so bad. Many people are saying this.”

“Why are people still talking about this?”

At the same time the NY Times was hyping Hillary Clinton's emails, it had a reporter with emails from Jeffrey Epstein that were highly damaging to Trump.

The more NYT apologists try to minimize this the clearer it becomes that they don't understand why much of the public doesn't trust legacy media.

Harvard grads can call the Harvard Alumni Association and politely let them know they won't donate to the school as long as Summers is working there. Their number is 617-496-0559.

I wonder if @jaketapper.bsky.social has seen this news about Epstein and Trump. I wonder if it has risen to the level of Joe Biden being forgetful about people's names and birthdays yet.

We are getting close to there.

This headline is journalistic malpractice. This isn't Epstein "alleging" that Trump knew. This is Epstein and Maxwell discussing - in 2011, long before Trump had political salience - how the FACT that Trump knew might play out

Both of them took as a given that this was a fact in a private email

kudos to the Dems who, after running a 40 day shutdown ruse that they all knew all along would fail (even though the "Schumer must resign!" ruse necessarily continues), got the Epstein files back online in a day or so

Extremists depend on your outrage to spread their memes far and wide. Whether it's Musk or Musk's chatbot, the same lesson applies.

Stop posting grok conversation screenshots unless you have the depth and you plan to take time to place it in a context beyond "omg look what the nazi chatbot said"
Let's talk about how to report on right-wingers without amplifying their hateful rhetoric. Far-right extremists count on YOU to spread their messages for them. Here's a thread of resources.

I wrote a piece a few weeks ago claiming antisemitism was on the verge of going mainstream. It was clear to me that most people had trouble buying it.

That's understandable. But it's happening.

Example: Conservatives themselves are now saying that 30 to 40% of Zoomers in Washington are Groypers.

how dare this fat blob of waste material talk about "able-bodied people who can do a job"

it's just such an abhorrent way to refer to people. "oh you're able bodied, get a job"

this guy has never in his life had a "job"
Trump claims that food stamps "puts the country in jeopardy. People that are able-bodied can do a job, they leave their job because they figure they can pick this up, it's easier."

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

Durbin is trash. Yes, lots of great stuff in the past. Sure he’s a decent guy. But he’s pure trash now. Important to see that the bulk of Team Cave is made up of people who are retiring.
Durbin is a YES on this deal: “At Democrats’ urging, today’s bill is not the same one we’ve voted down 14 times. Republicans finally woke up and realized their Groundhog Day needed to end. This bill is not perfect, but it takes important steps to reduce their shutdown’s hurt.”
