Tune of the day…Jimmy Raney - No Male for Me. This Bob Brookmeyer tune has inviting changes to go along with nice melody/ counter melody between guitar and trombone. While this sounds like a standard or show tune, I’m not that familiar with other recordings of it. #jazzsky youtu.be/nvXMlxEeKyE

Jazz OTD: A year before his transformative album “Unity,” organist Larry Young was already moving decisively toward post-bop even while maintaining the trappings of soul jazz. From November 12, 1964, the excellent “Into Somethin’,” with Grant Green (g), Sam Rivers (ts), and Elvin Jones (d). #jazzsky

Happy birthday, Sam Jones! This track was only on the CD re-release (I think?), featuring Sam on cello and a very young Ron Carter on double bass. It's very similar to Jones' composition "Bittersweet", too.
