Oh to me it's not about denormalization, it's about not having to create an entirely new fucking database because I forgot about adding a single column in a table, especially for datasets whose information is subject to change in the future (such as Yu-Gi-Oh cards which are 99% of my projects lol)

I guess I wasn't on Michael Bloomberg's approved list.
It was silly of me to think the FCTC, or the WHO for that matter, would be interested in gathering a wider range of experiences, perspectives and ideas.

It would be interesting to explore heuristics-based denormalization, i.e., your 5 MB dump is the logical version of the data, but you also precompute derived SQLite snapshots (at configured intervals). Then, the client can guess based on available CPU vs bandwidth which artifact to pick.

I've always considered denormalization as caching in a database. In that sense, document databases are basically more on-disk cache systems that support advanced scanning and patching
