We're still using cube maps, but with them applied through an ExponentialHeightFog volume we're able to reduce them to just a 2K texture with almost no noticeable loss in quality.

Overall, I'm really happy w/ this look and cant wait to start adding in asteroid fields and celestial bodies!

Never Thought Fog was this easy to make.
Added #ExponentialHeightFog and adjusted some parameters.
Not exactly what I wanted but still works.

To recreate the atmosphere of the painting, I used an HDRI dropped in the HDRIBackdrop. The HDRI come from HDRIHaven. I twisted it with hue, saturation and exposure in photoshop. Then I added a gradient for a better blend with the ExponentialHeightFog.
