Thank you Hyle of @dkvine.com for showing me the Gamespy review of Donkey Konga.

Haha. For brevity, I look at the GameSpy example. We should have learned a lot of lessons there. Most of those games still worked in some form after the service nosedived. I'm fine with games having these online components but I believe they should be walled off enough to be replaceable.

It's unfortunate but somewhat amusing to watch this site's executives go through a larger but essentially identical version of what I ran into moderating the GameSpy forums in 2002 but failing to rise to the occasion and establish sound ground rules for what type of site they want this to be.

Very happy that it is time for #RandomGameSaturday!

Today is Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade, the standalone expansion with an incredible tactical map and the same amazing gameplay as the base game.

I apparently put all my DoW manuals into this box, I played this game SO MUCH.

"A truly groundbreaking RTS with no major flaws. The visuals and music are top-notch and the gameplay is on a grand scale. This is the first game I have played where I was truly inspired by the vastness of space." - GameSpy

Looking through old press contacts and found one from GameSpy. Christ, I'm old.

I miss GameSpy from before IGN buying them. 😢

Ziff Davis were responsible for that, not GameSpy themselves. GS as far as I know had no say in the matter and ZD went nuclear with it because it deemed it as not being profitable in their eyes.

But ye, I agree. The death of the Planet sites was a huge loss.

Alternate repost of my newest article with tags because apparently you have to bloat your fucking post with them to get any kind of traffic.

this is why i have stuck with smaller independent sites that don't get much traffic. the bigger ones are owned by all the same people. Sites like GameSpy dying back in 2013/2014 was the beginning of the end for me.

They killed online gaming early on cause Nintendo relied on GameSpy for online services. Wii Shop got killed off when they killed off the Wii U though. Download servers for the stuff you bought already are still alive, for now anyway.

It was proven out when I left Twitter. I still check in from time to time and basically my only mentions anymore are porn bots and people asking why GameSpy servers are offline.

Hello Gamespy team, first time long time, let me get to my question here, As a dude in this day and age am I supposed to use Linux and a dumb phone? Do people respect me? What is the right amount of wine to have? Thanks in advance. I also agree with the 7/10 for Borderlands 3. Shit sucked.

Fun fact: I met @ceriyoungwrites.bsky.social on a preview tour to the Ubisoft Montreal Studio for Naruto: Rise of a Ninja back when I was writing for GameSpy.

I was also supposed to see a little upcoming new IP they were calling Assassin's Creed, but it wasn't in good enough shape to show.

for some reason they've sanded the edges off of every part of the experience, except the part where "playing in a game with my three friends on the internet" is an incredible pain in the ass on a level that has not been seen since Gamespy

I've been playing a lot of older not very active multiplayer games lately, and I was just thinking how great it would be to have a program again like the classic GameSpy Arcade client which shows a unified list of active servers in all the games you have.

Dessa vez vamos olhar as duas expansões de FEAR, uma excelente e outra esquisita. A ideia era analisar o multiplayer também, mas o site caiu e não consegui baixar e jogar, infelizmente só ficaram as memorias da gamespy

I was a freelance game journalist for 4 years, where I averaged $150/article. From 2003 to 2007.
I can’t even. I mean, you get what you pay for, quality-wise.
But also, a whole dream career has been vaporized. No more EGM. No more Game Informer. No more GameSpy.
$16 for a day’s work?! Damn…
