Parable of the Sower. "God is change" & the cycle of losing then rebuilding community have helped me to navigate the shittiness of this time in history

My Grandmother's Hands radically altered my understanding of generational trauma & how I understand current + historical US culture
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

CHAPPELL ROAN
'GOOD LUCK, BABE!'
USA 2024

I am in no way comparing Sabrina Carpenter to effing 'Dance Monkey'.

Yet, the world stopping at #2 for this song is the biggest "J'accuse" in the UK charts since 'Don't Start Now'.

Yes we need generational change and new blood in the Democratic party.

However, if your automatic reaction when seeing "person X who is related to politician Y is running for office Z" is to boo them without knowing anything about person X's merits or policies, then you are a hateful clown.

Speaking to colleagues in diff parts of 'East' Europe, it appears to be a generational thing, causing much discord between diff gens. I wonder if it is the same in East Germany.
When I lived in Erfurt for a couple of years, my circle of friends, colleagues and students was largely West Germans..
Many East Germans still sympathize with Russia - despite decades of Soviet occupation & now Putin’s war. Why? Nostalgia, post-reunification disappointment, capitalism’s failures, & as @steffenmau.bsky.social notes, an image of Russia that hasn’t evolved beyond the democratic hopes of the 1990s.

What if "Much Ado About Nothing," but in an apocalyptic desert of mechanical horses, hardscrabble ranches, and generational water wars? That's my story "Bitter Waters; Or, The Villain's Appointment," and there's 12 other great stories in this antho besides! (KS backers will receive rewards soon!)

I don't know. Who wants to start the conversation because, excluding generational wealth or trust funds, we are all existing on good will... ?

I’m about 30% complete.
having Big Feelings™️ about how their professor is disgustingly manipulative without any accountability (aside from being dead).

the way sorcery is presented as a science is really neat, as well as the commentary on generational conflict.

not fully bought-in yet, though.

911 - 2996 dead, 6000 injured, about 40 billion dollars in damage

Current war in Europe - 331000 dead incl 11000 civilians, estimated 776000 injured, with cost more on generational economical levels.

Oh no, double whammy! Wow, Seth Meyers just made a joke about a book on generational curses. Might see if it’s real, LOL.
We’re still pulling from his IRA annually to make up the difference between his previous job & the one he has now. It’s okay, but definitely concerning w/ these tumultuous times.

mortgages, like student loans, are modern forms of indentured servitude; but a 50 year mortage? that’s making sure the financial slavery becomes generational.

or they’re uneducated and misinformed (and by uneducated I don’t mean stupid- just not trained to parse through the noise to get to real information) plus a dollop of generational brain washing on top (I live where that is prevalent).

What baffles me about this, though, is that if this is a generational shift, weren't these teachers themselves taught to read using phonics? How are they so comfortable teaching a method that's diametrically opposed to how they learned? Or are they also poor readers teaching a poor method?

Generational poverty be like "You can survive on Ramen noodles and marshmallows, but if you don't spray eucalyptus oil on your pillow at night I'm giving you 500 pimples." or something fr 😭

Honestly, I wish I knew more of my mom's medical history because that would be helpful now but nooo...

No more establishment nepotism politicians. There’s plenty of qualified local and state politicians that worked their way to where they are and not on some name or generational wealth. I will listen to his policy suggestions but millionaires are going to protect millionaires.
