Tell you what, if the budget includes swathes of nationalisation, taxing wealth and cgt, increasing corporation tax, a raft of infrastructure investment, and the insourcing to remove profit motives, I’ll be the first to take back all the things I’ve said about her being a fucking shitshow

That’s my experience with how it goes too, except the insourcing back of the outsourced offshoring is less typically part of packaging the companies for such liquidity events.

And it doesn’t help that we live in money deserts / work deserts. Where there is no work that pays enough for basic necessities

The state may blame you for not having employment but are they doing anything about the outsourcing, the insourcing (hiring under the table), the automation, the AI, etc?
"The expensive, bureaucratic apparatus of monitoring and punishing people was effectively useless at getting them into work, but very effective at making them miserable."

Work requirements don't work and means-testing discourages employment.

UBI is the way to go.

Watch-outs: service quality in peak, labour relations, and the risk of over-lean networks if demand snaps back. Also, whether Amazon keeps insourcing the last mile.

Some decisions aren’t about cost.
They’re about trust.

Every CISO faces it sooner or later,
what to keep close, and what to let go.

Insourcing or outsourcing.
Not just a budget choice, but a leadership one.

New paper from the @probationres.bsky.social team! We provide broad lessons from the insourcing of probation in England & Wales

1. Structural change is exhausting
2. Milestones ≠ progress
3. Legitimacy can be improved, or undermined, by structural reform

End corporate subsidies, start insourcing, things will be cr@p for a while but at least there will be more money going to the frontline instead of executives pockets. So it will improve.

Part of my job is comparing the costs of insourcing versus outsourcing bus operations. It's complex and switching from one to the other doesn't reliably cut or increase costs. Economy of scale, deadhead length and union agreements factors much more than public versus private overhead.

Thats a fundamental misunderstanding of the technology. It's suppose to reduce your opex by removing people actually doing work not C Suites. Or at least smokescreen that cutting on workforce is due to AI while insourcing migrant workers in their place at fractions of the cost.

Up now: tree maintenance. At one point, the city was saving money by contracting out a lot of tree pruning to private vendors. These days, though, the cost is very similar. Insourcing could save money long-term and make operations more flexible, the report says. secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

Similarly, Brexit, regardless of what you think of it, was always going to cause a rise in civil service headcount because it involved insourcing a bunch of things we'd subcontracted to EU. This is just a thing that is true and anyone saying things like this and not acknowledging it is unserious.

The big tech companies have applied for as many HB1 visas for insourcing new tech talent as required to offset the layoffs of US based workers they are supposedly doing due to Gen AI advancements. Hmmm. Curious.
