I have watched the collective of democratic punditry collectively lose their minds in the last 24 hours and the punditry especially need to take a couple of Valiums or a thousand because all of them need to understand something that has never ever entered their mind, he doesn't care. You want him to wake up and have some degree of self awareness and see that Hegseth is the worst Secretary of Defense we have ever known? He has no self awareness because he is a psychopath. You may has well tell him he has a small penis. He would greatly disagree with you and Mr. Bigly. There will of course be an investigation into these cabinet members who illegally used Signal to send classified material to one another and Trump has announced that it will be headed by a genius investigator who can open and close a computer like nobody else. This independent totally competent genius of investigator is Baron Trump. This is a man who does not know what bad press is because that is all he has ever had and the legacy media talking about him for good or ill are never going to get a man who said he never prayed to god for forgiveness for anything because he'd never done anything wrong when we know for an absolute fact that he cheated on all of his wives and how many counts of adultery is that? It doesn't matter because he does not care. All of the Republicans with buyer's remorse do not understand that he does not care about you. You all getting in his face and crying about losing your jobs is a tough shit Charlie job for all of you. 'Well if he wants Republicans to get elected ever again he better stop this Doge stuff.' His entire staff is already caught committing felonies and doing exactly what was printed in Project 2025 that almost all of you were too busy to read but it is there in black and white. It told his cabinet to use Signal so they could not be subjected to Freedom of Information Act requests. Democracy does not die in darkness, it's dying in broad daylight while the legacy media acts all horrified that he is a criminal. He was a criminal before who committed 34 felonies but the legacy media couldn't bring itself to use those exact words for the same reason that Americans are never going to hear any criticism of Israel by anyone. The plain and simple fact of the matter is that corporate America and the hedge funds that control it, do not want the truth spoken. The President of Comcast who put out a memo to MSNBC specifically is a guy named Brian Roberts. Never heard of him huh? Take a wild guess where he went to school? I'll give you one guess and if you don't guess the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania then you're not smart. Though COMCAST is a gigantic billion dollar company, Brian Roberts has bosses who tell him what to do. Who are they? Well have you ever heard of a Hedge Fund called Black Rock? No? It turns out that Black Rock controls trillions with a T in assets and who are the big investors in Black Rock? Well good luck finding out because when you are a world conglomerate, you can attract all kinds of investors who don't want any governments looking into their business because they have Trillions to worry about, not a couple of Billion like Trump has. Elmo Musk has unleashed $10 million in Florida to help Republicans keep the house which is less than a nickel to you and me. He is a South African that got his American Citizenship under questionable circumstances but he's rich and white so of course he can break the law to stay in the United States and nobody would ever say a word to him. Elmo is spending this money openly and freely killing our democracy because Democrats are as averse to campaign finance laws as Republicans are. Nancy Pelosi famously said that members of congress should be able to use insider trading to make as much money as possible and boy have they! A government of the people, by the people and for the people does not comprise itself of only millionaires who can afford the entry fee to win a congressional seat that pays a mere $175,000. Why would anyone want to spend tens of millions of dollars to get a job that pays them less than $200,000? Because they can get that insider information and quintuple their net worth with insider trader information and they all do it, all of them. Trump just hired Paula White as his spiritual adviser again so she can get her a government check despite charging a mere $1000 for a "supernatural" gift from god if you give her the money. So there she is, talking in tongues and all that and though Trump has never set foot in a church except maybe to attend Jimmy Carter's funeral, Paula will be there to have a book ready to sell about Trump's godliness because those sheep are always willing to tithe because as PT Barnum put it so presciently, 'there's one born every minute.' You cannot shame a psychopath. This is why Democrats are going to keep losing elections because you will sit at home watching MSNBC and read your New York Times and think you have a good grasp on all that's going on? Quislings. Our moronic Health and Human Services Director came out and told dipshits in Texas that Vitamin A would help get rid of the measles and since he is scientifically illiterate you know what Texans done did? They gave their kids so much vitamin A that they have liver damage. Did he tell them to get vaccinated? Nope. Just some Vitamin A will take care of that. DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS BY GUM! Just let them poison their snotty brats with vitamin A because they're a special kind of stupid who think Bobby knows what he is talking about and Trump wouldn't appoint an absolute moron who would like, use Signal to have top secret conversations about anything right? You simply do not have the mental acuity to believe how incompetent Trump nor his staff are because these Morons on MSNBC will give you a once a week chastising for antisemitism and ignore a genocide committed by Israelis because Black Rock tells you what you get to know.

How are we keeping this fair, safe, and fun? AKA, The Rules 1. Don't be a twat! You must be respectful of whoever you are remixing, and whoever remixes your work. This isn't about having massive aggression and making out like the original writer/artist did something wrong. You're reimagining their work, not ripping it apart. A Stede-positive fic shouldn't become a Stede-bashing bonanza. It's about enjoying a fic so much, you can't help but wonder: what if...? And if you don't like what your remixer does? That's valid, but don't be an ass about it! You are not obligated to link to the remixed work in the original. There is no expectation for you to leave kudos and comments. If you don't like the remixed work, follow the same general rule of all fics/art - read the tag and/or hit the back button if it's not your cup of tea! 2. 500 words minimum in the Classic Remix… ...but aim for 10% of the original fic length if possible. So, if you choose to remix a 100k fic, you should ideally be aiming for a 10k fic of your own. It's okay if it isn't! Just make sure it's at least 500 words. Fic-for-fic and art-for-art only, unless specific circumstances (ie last-minute pinch-hitter is needed) arise. FUCKERY REMIX ONLY - No minimum word count, and no restrictions on work medium (unless specified by prompter). 3. Retain the original plot and pairings. What is the original plot? Well, that's up to the remixer to decide. But an Ed/Stede fic shouldn't be remixed into, say, an Ed/Izzy fic. However, if Ed/Izzy was a background pairing in the original fic, the remixer could choose to bring that to the forefront of the remix. You could change the POV, you could make it a prequel or sequel, you could make it a 'Sliding Doors' situation where at some point in the fic, a different choice is made. This year, those who sign up can also opt-in to a relationship being made poly, e.g. an Ed/Stede work turning into an Ed/Stede/Izzy work. However, if your assignment does NOT want this, it must be respected. You can find more ideas of what a remix can look like on Fanlore (see the link in this post) and if you have any doubts or concerns, message me @friendlytikek on Discord! 4. Respect your assignment’s preferences and the choices your remixer makes. That means, if they've specified safe works (works they do not want to be remixed under any circumstances), you cannot remix them. No exceptions. The same goes with regard to their rating and warning preferences. Likewise, if you don't provide any safe works or preferences, respect the fact your work will be remixed in any way your remixer sees fit. 5. All works must be complete and uploaded by the end of Friday the 20th of June, 2025. No exceptions. If you won't be able to complete your work, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can find somebody to fill your space so everybody gets a complete work 💜 Also, please ensure your work remains anonymous until creators are revealed on June 30th. You can respond to comments (because AO3 will hide your name!) but don't sign your name, link to socials in notes, etc. until after creators have been revealed. After the reveals, you can edit your work to include more personalised notes. You're also welcome to change the post date of your work when they go live and again when revealed. Screenshot of a Steam review. It reads: (Full disclosure: this is, dominantly, a retrospective of sorts which bears several spoilers that are unlabeled. If you want a no-details, spark notes review, and if you're a more casually-aligned player like myself, then take this and move along; buy it and play it. Meet it halfway. Commit to it. It will feel merciless at times, but it will always nudge you forward. It has an intimidating air, but it'll never suffocate. It is nothing short of a 10 out of 10… but you have to play it on its terms to understand. However you approach it; may you attain enlightenment.) It's easy to give up. It really, truly is. As I sit down and write this, over an hour after finally hitting the end on my fourth overall attempt with six continues in the bag and only one left at a deeply rattling last-minute stretch, I am still quivering. There's still a light, but very real current running through me, punctuated by now-dry tears as a result of the catharsis that followed upon realizing that it's finally over. To call the following an understatement would be an understatement unto itself; I could not even perceive myself being here, at one point. My first ten or so hours with this game were spent lingering in anger, annoyance, sardonicism, so on and so forth, all initially directed at the game—what kind of dumb attack is that, how the hell are you supposed to dodge this normally, there's no way they expected you to clear this without|/i] wasting a continue—and then, slowly but surely, at myself. I kept giving in. Endlessly, consistently giving in. I would tell myself that I suck; that this isn't the first time I've kept failing at almost every turn in an STG, with or without continues; that there's no point in chipping away at the gauntlet any further if I can't be perfect right now. It goes without saying NOW, of course, that this was a profoundly moronic mindset(!)—but it's the one that, for those first ten or so hours, guided me. And then, one night, I *especially* blew up as a result of getting to the decision point and "realizing" it's all for naught if I don't have enough continues. If there was a full gas tank of negativity at that point, let me assure you; it was very, very thoroughly emptied out in the span of about twenty minutes and two walls of self-pitying text. I backed out of it all, I left the game, I watched some garbage to fill a temporary void, and then I went to bed. And then I woke up the next morning. Blank slate. Brushed my teeth, had a coffee, went through some dailies in another game. And then I gave it all another shot—and it went much, much better this time. And I did sacrifice everything, unlike the night prior. And I lost it all, three minutes later. It was here, then, that I realized what I'd been missing. For the rest of my playtime past that point, I'd finally tackled it on its terms. Incurred losses were no longer black-and-white defeats; they were means of learning, of having a better understanding as to where I'm lacking. Stage-by-stage victories became clear indicators of actual, tangible progress—single-continue attempts slowly getting up to 1-4 with actual consistency. It's not as though I was some personification of a Zen mindset all of a sudden, to be sure; I still let the emotions run wild, more often than not. But there was no longer a destructively fragile ego at the reins, itching for clear-cut perfection at every turn. There was only me and the instincts I had honed and was honing. [Header: I can still fight you!] Failure was, in no uncertain terms, no less a daunting mistress at that point than she was before. It still felt humiliating having to see the slate go back to zero, three whole times. But the progress—the details on almost every stage that I committed to memory, every accumulation of a sort of "game sense"—never disappeared. The determination to see it all through never fully left... or rather, if anything, it was only bolstered. It stands to reason, then, that once it all finally did click, once those thirty-something hours finally amounted to something complete, and once the conclusion arrived afterwards, one screen and one textbox at a time, all I could do was curl up in my chair... and feel it all. The aching in my fingers, the lump in my throat, the rapid beating of my heart, the shakiness in my breathing, the minuscule rivers forming under my eyes. A barrage of reminders that, here and now, this was me. [Header: ...depends entirely on your resolve.] I arrived here by my own will. I arrived here despite every negative force in my body telling me that I would never be able to do so, and that any attempt in that arrival's favor would be all for naught. I arrived here despite a genuine, persisted belief that I could not do it because "I don't have the mental facilities to follow along like the game wants me to." I arrived despite and because of myself. This, I feel, is where ZeroRanger's true quality—and its most important factor, at least to myself, i.e. someone who hasn't played enough STGs to care much for the references and the call-backs and what-have-you—lies. It is a vehicle for one's soul. It is a proper reminder of what you can truly do when you commit to something. It is something that could only be accomplished in the medium (and, debatably, the genre) it resides in. It is a game that stands on the shoulders of the giants that came before it... and a game that jumps off of those same shoulders to jump into a vast, open sky to soar. What it does is, all told, incredibly risky; lord knows I was prepared to give up for good at a certain point. But what it accomplishes is so much greater by comparison that no risk-reward ratio is capable of fully capturing it. [Header: I'm still mad at you.] ... but I deeply, deeply love you all the same, System Erasure. You have rekindled a love for the medium that I thought I'd lost for a suffocatingly long time. You have spoken to me at the core in such a profound way, at a time when I needed it the most. There are ultimately no words of gratitude that will ever be enough. There is no lexicon wide enough to convey that which I feel at the moment. And perhaps, in a playful sense, for the better—certain schools of Buddhism, from what I've gathered, actually reject vehement prayers and praises. But despite that, I can at least say this, instead of shying away from it; I admire you. I admire your very presence on this earth. I admire every last ounce of work you've put into making this project a reality. And I can only hope that I will be able to admire everything you create from this point onwards.
