Joined 2 groups of volunteers briefly this weekend- Friends of Pilrig Park holefilling on Sat, & Friends of Montgomery Street Park litterpicking today (3 different weathers in 30min! ☀️🌤🌧).

Always grateful for the commitment they & ppl can have to nature.

The good thing is, a litterpicker seems to be a failsafe toy for any 3-8yo. We regularly go litterpicking; once, a guy even gave us a tenner for our efforts! I felt like I was profiteering off child labour.

The cigarette is snatched away by the litterpicker, which we see is being held by Coral, who's dressed for handling rubbish. "MY CIGGY" Dani exclaims, as they devolve into a scrambling animal trying to claw their precious fag back from him. Coral doesn't seem impressed. "didn't you tell me you quit these?" he ponders out loud. Meanwhile trent has fully malfunctioned and is quickly spiralling into mania. Coral give him a gay little wave anyway, while holding the cigarette as far out of Dani's reach as he can. Dani regains composure and attempts diplomacy. "Babe I wasn't dragging I was just... using it to look cool... in front of the lads..." they plead. Coral gives them a warm hug. "You're cool enough, sweetie. How's work going?" Dani suddenly remembers the week's worth of work they need to do in one evening. "oh?" coral notices. "Gonna be a late night again?"

Here’s the conclusion, people have chatted shit about us online for years, they’ll keep doing it for years.

Why? Because we’ll be doing this for years! We’re going nowhere butt.
CONCLUSION? This set of interviews is titled 'Stalinist litterpickers!',which is a bit of an inside joke at this point — in truth, it is what one of our many detractors said about us years ago. There are many ways I could conclude this set of interviews, it could be a harsh comment on those who like to criticise online but will never get their hands dirty, those who theorise all day and night with no practise, those who practise without theory and get nowhere, or could be a simple acknowledgement. An acknowledgement that the Welsh Underground Network, 5 years later, turns people out in their communities nearly every week of the year, no month passes by with us saying "shit, we've done nothing".

Great to do a bit of litter picking around Danescourt this afternoon and then get into door knocking with some of our future Welsh Labour Senedd candidates for Caerdydd Penarth.

Definitely the case that on a cool, crisp, October day we needed layers but the reception on the door was lovely and warm
