Correct. Arguably this *is* what was driving up meat prices in 2021/2022 but the result was a massive expansion in meatpacking, and now it's a pretty competitive market

1. Tariffs of imported Brazilian beef.
2. Environmental factors such as drought. Remember Biden’s IRA tried to help.
3. Immigration crackdowns have hurt the meatpacking industry

Bad policies = bad outcomes. Republicans SHOULD pay a steep political price.

Along with the meatpacking rant, further evidence Trump has clocked the cost-of-living issue but has no idea what to do about it. I guess cutting tariffs is out of the question.

(NB I reckon that despite tariffs, inflationary risks from services are probably bigger than those from goods.)

But really, the IWW could pop up anywhere. And the IWW could inspire similar movements as well. This is what happened in Austin. The Independent Union of All Workers was an independent movement building on IWW principles and intended to organize the meatpacking plants of the Midwest.

Absolutely, the meatpacking companies are jacking up prices while lowering what they pay to the rancher. This is a massive money grab.

…which fits the profile of what they do. ICE typically goes somewhere looking for an individual or bc a particular place (like a meatpacking plant) is purported to have undocumented workers. CBP, however, does a lot of driving around on the Border watching for people, like they’re out hunting…

“The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair.

Published in 1906, this novel was based on the real-life corruption within the meatpacking industry, and how immigrants (mostly European & Slavic at the time) were subjected to inhumane treatment and brutal working conditions.

Immigrants are still expendable. 😕
