Yes, Tesla’s sensors are substantially inferior due to Musk’s dogmatic insistence on cameras over other technologies like radar and lidar. bsky.app/profile/owas...
If you look at Tesla’s competition, a “cybercab” might seem plausible. Waymo reports “providing more than 100,000 rides a week in SF, Phoenix and LA.”

What’s missing in that comparison, though, is Waymo’s taxis add ~$300,000 in additional sensors. No way Musk is matching that in a $30,000 car.
Elon finally gets to the real pitch: Cybercab would offer "individual personal transit" that would be cheaper than the bus, and you can buy one for $30,000. Or, you can buy a "flock of cars," and "tend to them like a shepherd." He literally said this!

retaliating tooth-tooth when bigots bring violence feels good in the moment

strategic non-violent civil disobedience wins in long term👇🏼

certainly do what you need to do in an individual encounter

I’m talking more about how to win in long term & end this madness

One central lesson of 1960s civil rights protests is that activists can “dramatize injustice” through strategic “narrative construction,” essentially creating compelling stories in the media with clear heroes and villains. More in this thread: bsky.app/profile/owas...
I’ve been studying civil rights protests for 20 years. With new mobilization against Trump’s agenda, I’m sharing a thread summarizing my research on how nonviolent & violent actions by 1960s activists and police influenced media, elites, public opinion & voters. 1/ www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Fire officials oppose the design but a “Pew study pored over residential fire deaths across NYC in 2012-24 and found the fatality rate in single-stair buildings was both low and equal to other residences…likewise no deaths in Seattle over same time period could be blamed on a missing staircase.”
One California city’s idea to tackle the housing crisis: Take the stairs
Culver City becomes first California city to allow six-story apartment buildings with just one staircase, a bold move to ease housing construction and affordability.

You're right to be puzzled. “In New York City, which has allowed modest single-stair buildings up to six stories for its entire history, such buildings are commonplace.” bsky.app/profile/owas...

Yes and no. Many of these studies use specialized bikes or equipment that offer more resistance than would typically be available on a conventional bike. It is possible, though, to replicate some of the additional effort with methods like hill sprints or max-sprint runs. See bsky.app/profile/owas...

Maybe burning bridges to the world to build White-kanda isn’t such a good idea?
I wonder if the United States can learn anything from the last time a major industrialized country decided to isolate itself from the rest of the world?

Almost a decade after the Brexit vote, GDP in the UK is around 6-8% lower relative to peer countries. (Source: www.nber.org/papers/w34459)

Earlier this year, we showed Trump built a remarkable “plutopopulist” coalition in his campaigns, drawing money from both wealthy elites and an unprecedented surge of small, first-time donors. With Tuesday’s elections, though, that coalition seems to be fraying. What happened? 1/ cup.org/4cfm0Az

This segment from @maddow.msnbc.com last night does a good job of laying out the logic: effective protests help strengthen and grow the coalition opposed to the administration and, simultaneously, raise the costs of those aligned with Trump. youtu.be/8xnHWD53w60?...
