I really, really need to start proofreading... and quit editing on the fly. 🤭

I admit to the advantage of having multiple co-authors, and between the three of us we do catch a lot in proofreading pass. We'd hire a proofreader otherwise though.
I will never use AI for my covers, editing, translation, or anything else. It is not only useless to me as an author, it is actively hostile and harms every skill related to book production.

If you're an author against AI used to generate writing, you better back everyone else in the chain too.

I do my best proofreading after I hit <Send> or <Enter>.

Proofreading is not a dead art, but it seems to be a bit dozy here at the national pubic radio.

I follow the same process I recommend to clients: first, a few rounds of dev. editing (aka. edits focused on structural issues), then a couple rounds of line editing (sentence level stuff, word-choice, etc.), a proofreading pass, and then onto beta readers. Rinse & repeat as needed! #WritingQ
What does the revision process look like to you? What do you cut first? I always cut extra words or unnecessary backstory #writingq #WritingCommunity

The Prolog to Liam & His Shadow Go To Hell. I might work on it some more. I'm in the middle of editing and proofreading.

Tell me, does this invoke your curiosity?

The GOP magical plan to fix healthcare has been coming “any day now” since Obama’s election in 2008. I’m starting to wonder if they really have a plan? 17 years seems a long time to be proofreading a document.

How proofreading can be more difficult and yet more pleasant.

I knew an elderly Panjabi man who literally described his own mother tongue as "saali Hindi" - so sad.

As for " bejaar" I helped a Panjabi friend as a kind of research gopher on her nursing Master's, did some proofreading too. She actually used "region" when she meant "reason" 😀

I may have sat on the sofa all day, but I got a lot done.
Finished proofreading, formatting, and uploading a book to Zon, both e-book & paperback. Wrote a bunch of words. Crocheted. Got a Christmas gift that took time to pick out. So it has been productive over here on the sofa.

Does this mean sometimes it'll take time for a book to be written? Yeah. Does it mean I'm going to have to knuckle down and do my proofreading myself because I can't afford an editor or the time it would take to trade services? Sure, but it is what it is.
