I am absolutely fascinated by abandoned activeworlds builds, Redlyne has a fantastic YouTube series covering this. That game feels like a digital time capsule, I can almost feel the energy of the residents who built these places, all long gone or even dead. The memorial builds get to me the most.

ThorHighHeels: tons of comfy artsy looks at niche games

MoonChannel: can be hit or miss, but whenever their content intersects with history, things turn super interesting

Redlyne: Stretches the definition of essay a bit, but they wander through dead games and servers, and it's sooo interesting

Steven Johnson is a Star Trek NPC in a social game called Wolf Territories Grid. He is doomed to an existence standing in the ocean of a now defunct map until the server eventually shuts down.
Thanks to Redlyne on Youtube for making this known to me.

These videos by Redlyne are always a treat. He has a goofy but sincere approach to his exploration, treating these games as monuments to their old population. A mix of strange and melancholic

Side Note: It nails the source engine feel so perfectly that playing it feels like one of those Redlyne/Ratlobber videos where they explore dead source engine servers. I'm also shocked that its single player only seemingly. From what its trying to do, it would be perfect for a multiplayer mode

its kind of crazy how consistently redlyne comes across stuff like memoriams and tributes to the deceased in games like "Active Super Friend Chat Room World" (active playercount: 2 (including himself))
