Northern Lights really popped off here in Iceland, and apparently everywhere else, as evidenced by social media feeds. Expect more for the next few days.

NOAA SWPC has modeled the X5.1 CME, and it's a strong one! Impact is around Nov 12, 14 UT. A G4/Kp 8/SEVERE geomagnetic storm watch has been issued for Nov 12.

Wow! Here is the NOAA SWPC model for the two CMEs currently heading for Earth. This model has the two CMEs interacting and mounting for a 1-2 punch right near Earth with a combined impact time of around Nov 11, 22 UT +/- 7 hr.

4:50 PM EST, 11/11: An X5.1-class #solarflare has resulted in the @nws.noaa.gov issuing a G4 geomagnetic storm watch for Nov 12. A strong CME is Earth-directed, bringing possible tech impacts, and #auroras visible much farther south than usual tonight and/or tomorrow night. #Aurora #SpaceWeather

Today the Sun produced an X1.8-class #SolarFlare (the highest category). The event also triggered an Earth-directed coronal mass ejection, although we are still yet-uncertain of the likely strength or timings of the impact at Earth. #spaceweather

Vivid red Aurora north of Albuquerque NM last night. It was naked eye visible with varying periods of activity and movement. 🫰for clear skies tonight.

Tonight is bonkers! (That's a technical term.)

There is now a G5 (extreme) geomagnetic storm watch in place (Met Office), we are waiting for the third eruption to arrive although, due to uncertainty in the propagation models it is unclear whether it will arrive today or tomorrow 🌞💨🌎👀 #SpaceWeather #Aurora #StephsStormWatch

📊 Latest HUXt forecast shows 2 CMEs from AR4274 arriving on 12 Nov at ~4 & 15UT respectively. AR4274 is delivering a one-two punch!⚡️🥊 G2+ storm conditions increasingly likely. Aurora prospects strong for northern UK despite poor weather forecast.

Aurora in southern New Mexico has been hammering for four hours!

This is a closer view of the band of green along the horizon, and the rest of the frame is flooded with brilliant red.

Inbound. Two active sunspot groups are now rotating Earthward going into this weekend: AR 4274 and AR 4276. Both already kicked off a pair of X-class flares in quick succession earlier this week, delivering an oblique blow to Earth’s spaceweather environment.

Here’s our one-two-three punch! 🥊 🥊🥊 According to the latest run of the HUXt model the third CME is expected to impact on 13th November at around 13 UT. This is going to be a tiring couple of days 😅 #SpaceWeather #StephsStormWatch

The event of 774 had no significant consequences for life on Earth, but had it happened in modern times, it might have produced catastrophic damage to modern technology, particularly to communication and navigation satellites.

CME arrival!🎯 Real-time solar wind data from ACE at L1 showing the first CME from AR4274 is arriving.⚡

HF #Propagation Report - Geomagnetic activity is expected to be mostly calm to active today, but stormy phases are possible due to CME effects. The sun is only moderately active, but there is a possibility for further stronger flares (M 70% X 25% proton 25%). #spaceweather #hamradio #hamr

🚨 What we have been waiting for. AR 4274 just unleashed an X1.8 solar flare! 💥 We will have to wait and check the data to see if this beast erupted and if there's an Earth-directed CME heading our way 🌞💨🌍
Updates to follow!

As Corporal Jones would say "Don't panic, Mr. Mainwaring"

BUT holly #Aurora Alert Batman!

There's a big fuck off Aurora going off right now & for the next 24hrs. If this keeps up, it will visible from Auckland New Zealand after dark.

Moon doesn't rise till 2:45am tomorrow so no issue.

Now that we have the coronagraph data from GOES/CCOR I can now confirm that the CME is a full halo, which means it is Earth-directed. This increases the chances of a stronger geomagnetic storm and impressive aurora displays. Stay tuned! 🌞💥💨🌎 #SpaceWeather #StephsStormWatch
