To those of you who said the sestercentennial cage match was a fiction.
Trump: "On June 14 next year we're gonna have a big UFC fight at the White House, right at the White House, on the grounds of the White House."

i think for the sestercentennial next year america should just close up shop, run a big going out of business sale, everything must go. i mean it's 250 years, enough already, it was a good run but this clearly isn't working.

Semiquincentennial is too much of a mouthful. Should have used Sestercentennial, instead. Or go all the way with Bicenquinquagenary, which has the added benefit of sounding totally badass!

(No, I didn't just look up those words on Wikipedia. Why do you ask?)

“What was the sestercentennial like, Uncle Nick?”

“The president hosted a pay-per-view cage match at the White House.”

“Hahahaha! No, really.”

“No. Really.”

I also notice the 250th anniversary has a harder-to-pronounce/spell name than "bicentennial"; Wikipedia has varying names: "Semiquincentennial, also called the Bisesquicentennial, the Sestercentennial or the Quarter Millennial[...]" Though looks like just "250th" is the most popular choice...

Sestercentennial (250-year) anniversary of the Declaration is this weekend. I love reading the list of reasons they used to justify the Revolution, some of which are surprisingly applicable today:

"He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public Good." (1/6)

“Though the nation's 250th birthday can also technically be called the sestercentennial, quarter millennial or bisesquicentennial, it appears semiquincentennial is the de-facto term.”

Society™️ has apparently decided that next year will be the SEMIQUINCENTENNIAL. As a Philadelphian (extra points on this, eh?), as a fan of freedom, and as someone whose tongue is easily tied, might I suggest that SESTERCENTENNIAL is a far better choice?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Trump's military parade on June 14 marks the Army's 250th - ahead of America's own 250th birthday July 4, 2026. What will that celebration look like?
