Stunday today!
Driving home after a nice classical guitar concert of all Spanish music, we came to a stop sign and this friendly guy pulled next to us.
He was riding the Captain America Harley made famous by the movie Easy Rider!
I was stunned!

Michael Romeo | Symphony X. “Sea of Lies.” 1996. Avoid if you hate neo-classical guitar shred.

Some changes in the schedule as I'm taking some time for Remembrance Day and MusicNL Week.  No change in the Monday Morning Sing Song or Friday Yakuza.  TikTok is quite different this week so keep an eye!  #music

I just went to a matinee performance of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ricardo Muti and featuring Pablo Sainz Villegas on classical guitar. Just at the last minute. And it was brilliant. Music! Music!

"I like classical composers. I've always listened to the impressionists for guitar lines. Debussy wrote incredible guitar lines, though he didn't know it." Richard Thompson, to the NME, 1979

I'm very depressed but I got to see my brother play a classical guitar concert last night so that was rlly nice. He was invited to my alma mater to teach a master class and give a concert

I’d been encouraged to try drop-D tuning and never seen a reason to bother, but I got Joe Walsh’s “A Life of Illusion” stuck in my head this morning, and…huh. Okay. I get it.

"I've been listening to a lot of classical music, especially Debussy. Goddamn, that mother wrote some hot shit!"
-Eddie Van Halen to Guitar Player magazine, 1980

Ellen Fullman's new album has had very little attention but is very much worthy of your time, overlaying her Long String Instrument’s drone with Hawaiian steel guitar and santur, inspired by Hindustani classical modes

Thank you for that. I have seen the fretboards before but didn’t delve. Being a left hander a guitar like that isn’t an option. I played classical as a child but hated not being able to find “the” note - frustrating. Happened the other day, so i chucked an “original” chord in…not the same. Lol

🤔

I started classical guitar at juniors and did it instead of metalwork in secondary school. I remember not practising the piece and trying to sight read it. I got sent back to metalwork until i'd learnt it. But given the embarrassment i didn't n it stayed in cupboard for another 12 years.

Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard Of Ozz (1980)

"Blizzard of Ozz was a masterpiece of neo-classical metal that, along with Van Halen's first album, became a cornerstone of '80s metal guitar." (Steve Huey, AllMusic)

Very gradually as an adult I started discovering other music which scratched a similar itch; instrumental stuff like jazz, classical, acoustic guitar and whatnot. And a lot of electronica.

These days, my music collection is pretty eclectic and diverse:
