Grateful to @meridianintl.bsky.social for hosting a dynamic
roundtable on Asia’s future. I was honoured to deliver opening remarks & facilitate discussion. This ADB futurecasting initiative highlights how US stakeholders can help drive inclusive, sustainable & resilient growth in the region.

That gave me pause too. Wouldn’t now be the time to advocate the Ds repeal the tariffs rather than surrendering to doomerist futurecasting?

I was trying to envision a world where AI could pull in all the variables and generate videos of what WILL happen in a scene including futurecasting crimes or some crazy shit until I realized goddammit I just reinvented "Minority Report".
Can today’s AI video models accurately model how the real world works?
New research shows highly inconsistent performance on a variety of physical reasoning tasks.

I am loving the outflow of "get the FUCK out of here with your autism cure-ism eugenicist rhetoric".

If you're doing this, please continue & include #Trans & #BIPOC in your work.

This makes identifying those who are decidedly NOT much, MUCH easier. 🖖

someone sent me this speculative futurecasting thing:
ai-2027.com/race

my take:

- the western authors flatter themselves imagining china will steal vs. pioneer the next phase of AI

- the idea that a pure scaling will yield exponential gains ignores growing recognition of the need for symbolic AI

A really excellent article, on imagination over blind optimism and collective preparedness over despair. Flipping from blind optimism to despair feels like two sides of the same coin, but Butler showed us a long time ago that there are other paradigms, even when collapse is a real possibility.
Octavia Butler predicted our dystopian present. What can a futurist learn from her chilling accuracy?
“She painted a very clear picture about survival.”

there were some good alternatives! just the idea that this was a place where we needed to take a rhetorical stand lol, it was already very unpopular, and if we do want to get into the futurecasting rhetorical weeds it's as likely as anything that "the big beautiful bill" comes back to bite them

this is very good, and no one is asking me to take them back. I suppose i'm just futurecasting and trying to decide how i could justify feeling tender or loving towards them again

I'm a Sneakers person. Brilliant flick whose futurecasting turned out to be entirely too on the nose.

My name is Werner Brandes. My voice is my passport. Verify me.

That is stuck in my brain forever. 😆

the thing about futurecasting lol is some of what I'm thinking will be wrong, untenable, or unnecessary, based on things I don't know of that'll need to be taken into consideration.

just b/c I don't know how the future is gonna play out don't mean I shouldn't think about those future possibilities.

The Mule is one of the classic antagonists of American Sci-Fi.

He's the fly in the ointment of Hari Seldon's plan; the x-factor that psychohistory, for all its futurecasting, didn't anticipate -- and the Foundation and the galaxy pays the price for that blind spot.

I like the Norgaard signing + think there's a good argument for it.

My issue is Rice, Ode, & Zubi are all top, but then our other main options Merino & Norgaard are fine but quite limited players who will only decline.

I get the Nwaneri + Dowman protection, but it's futurecasting right now.

I'm so sick of stupid futurecasting,,, Democrats - "He won't do that, ifs unconstitutional! Republicans - if we do what we want you will wonder what to do with all your riches. If not then blame Democrats....
That’s…not the way this works
Tim Scott on stablecoin legislation: "The Walmart or Target folks shopping will see costs coming down, which means prices will stabilize as well. This is good news for the economy, good news like the single one who raised me, good news for seniors on fixed income."

for ambitious weird and marxist political futurecasting i recently read kohei sato’s ‘slow down’ and have been mulling it over. sort of the opposite of this in many ways tho, by the sound of it

Recent studies show most gifted people are actually neurodivergent. It's definitely true in my case. I do seem to have some futurecasting and mind reading abilities, but they seem reflexive. They just happen. It's likely due to my Autistic patten matching ability and Mirror Touch Synesthesia.
