What if trees whispered beneath the snow? The Golden Milkcap (Lactarius alnicola) builds hidden networks, vital for carbon cycling even in winter's chill. Intrigued by these secret underworld connections? #FungiExplained #UndergroundNetworks

(Russulaceae).

Stem not being hollow does matter, good instinct! I’m a little hesitant to say for 💯 sure which lactarius it is without knowing a bunch more details but it could be lactarius voluminus (choice edible). Whatever it is, it won’t kill you but look up the protocol for testing!

Those are milk caps (lactarius), I could tell you which one with more info! (Scrape the gills with your fingernail and see what color the milk is)
