Lieberman. Lieberman, Lieberman, Lieberman. Knifed the ACA by insisting that the public option was removed.

Lieberman did what he was paid to do. Make it so Obama threw up his hands and said "I tried, guess we'll have to go with the corporate handout option."

In 2020, 54% of Americans flat out supported single payer according to Pew, and it was much higher according to Kaiser Family Foundation (70%)

Get real. This isn’t Obama’s fault. He did the best he could under the circumstances at the time. Dem Sen Lieberman CT trashed the public option at the time. & the PUBLiC is still not entirely supportive of universal/medicare-for-all. Sounds great as long as ‘I don’t lost my personal health ins.’

No, you kneel at the feet of LOBBYISTS. And if they offer you a nice fat check in response for favorable legislation, you'll take it.

You have it nicely balanced so there's always a Lieberman, Manchin, Sinema or Fetterman who'll refuse to play ball leading to a "compromise" "we can't", right?

Thank you for the reminder. @jonlovett.bsky.social also shares reminders about the dickishness of Joe Lieberman as a reason we don’t have a public option.

True. But let's also not forget that one of those 60 was Lieberman, who demanded there not be a public option (even though that was in the House-passed version). As usual, they negotiated against themselves.

You seem to forget Durbin voted against it too. Lieberman was always a DINO.

Certainly there were many more conservative Democrats in Congress than, but Lieberman may not count as part of the "Obama Coalition" since he endorsed abd campaigned for McCain in 2008.

the obama coalition, which included people like lieberman, definitely had a more pronounced right-leaning faction in the party

Why don't we try something a little different. Why don't we attack Schumer? That goon is responsible for so many Democratic losses. He is not a Democrat,he is a GOP agent. He has never supported a Dem president going decades. His BFF blocked Obama (Lieberman). When Dems switch to the GOP he lets them

That’s not quite fair: Lieberman was always a sanctimonious prig who cared far less about helping people than being a senator.

All We Israelis Are Ben-Gvir

A common line runs between Naftali Bennett, Yair Lapid, Avigdor Lieberman, and Ben-Gvir: nationalism, fascism and militarism differing only in the most minor of nuances.

With open enrollment underway, annual reminder that we could have had healthcare for all if it weren't for Joe Lieberman.

The CT senator didn't back the public option bc he had no political base after becoming an Independet), which meant he cldn't afford to lose the insurance coffers...HQd in CT.

Because Joe Lieberman killed the public option, shackling us to this punitive model that enriches the boardroom class while keeping us unwell.

When photographer Morgan Lieberman traveled to Poston Camp I, she found colorful origami cranes, or oritsuru, were tucked into the chain links.

They're intended to remind us that despite tremendous healing and hope, history is often repeated because of the quiet indifference of the majority.

I still think of this as Pulling A Lieberman, even if a lot of the details are different
It really is amazing that when a popular young Democratic politician who wants to solve real problems for people beats an old-guard institutionalist Democrat in a primary, the institutionalist Democrat just stays in the race and basically runs as a Republican.
