I have TEN coffee shops in my neighborhood and each attracts a different clientele, cultivates a different vibe. It’s a fascinating series of microcosms that also happen to serve yummy bean zoom drink

You'd ne even more amazed in SUI. Tiny cantons like Glarus or Uri have their own rules and traditions. And even in those sometimes microcosms exist. Grison has only 200k inhabitants but 3 official languages.

I think all people have a certain type of panic when confronted with that reality if they're introspective enough.

For me it was the sun going supernova. I read an account of someone going blackpill after watching a video on "iron stars"

There's microcosms of this in videogames about resources too

Midnight Starter Pack Drop

Bluesky’s Starter Packs flip the script: community-vetted bundles instead of hidden algos. Real people handcraft these gateways so you land in the right microcosms—no guesswork, just genuine connections.

I'm such a bibliophile that I've even written some poems about books. Of course, being a speculative poet, the books in my poems aren't ordinary books. These be magic books!

Poem "Book of Dimensions" and horrorku "musty ebon tome".

The reality is that fandom spaces are just little microcosms. I have been subject to and borne witness to the worst kinds of humanity in fandom spaces, and have seen and been a beneficiary of the best kinds of humanity in those spaces. Those microcosms have gotten larger and larger, to the point

The sheer evil of dismantling U.S.A.I.D. is just staggering. Musk has done plenty of bad stuff to the people of the US, but to people in other countries the effects have been far worse. The world's richest man starving the world's poorest people really microcosms the issues.

In microcosms it might work for a microcosm - I readily concede that. But it must be subordinate to (ergo, not really anarchism) a global government coordinating human activity. Not dictating human activity. But focusing it on stopping climate change and the related mass famine that *will happen*.

Indeed, this situation sounds both shocking and disheartening.
Prisons, which should be places of justice, have become microcosms of power and corruption
People like David Shipley, who dare to expose the truth, truly deserve to be heard

Yes, ending qualified immunity is absolutely paramount to restoring public trust. If Mamdani wants true reform, QI must be dissolved. However SCOTUS has ruled cops don’t even need to protect you and gave them QI, so how does the macrocosm reform that in 50 different microcosms and metropolis cities

Election night results are in, and a pair of prominent races stand as microcosms of a youth-fueled Democratic wave that swept through the nation in an off-year temperature test amid the second Trump administration.

Bearing in mind it is not possible to do no harm, 'religion' has to be judged on a basis of microcosms. Individuals, groups, and churches need to question: "Am I doing more good than harm?"

That being said, for nationalists and evangelicals it's a resounding "no", and they do not care.

I'd argue major metropolitan areas are microcosms of national sentiment; the size of the population is why they are "blue" as often those policies tend to be broadly popular on their own accord. pretending NY has no conservatives is insane. How many Republican mayors have we had in my lifetime?
November 5, 2025 at 9:36 PM
NYC voted 68% for Harris and 50% for Mamdani. You’re making my point quite effectively, thank you. Stop thinking about local candidates and politics as microcosms of national races, it doesn’t scale that way. Level up.

We and our discourse are Microcosms that keep the Macrocosms fed by staying active over here where they feed.

Not over there where they live, breathe, sleep.

We need to infest their mattress to have an impact, I think.

It feels like it would be a lousy idea to sync up One Off Megacity Elections with the presidential election. Could help, could hurt. I don’t think we need more focus on “large microcosms” as we already get enough of that from the NYT and Washington Post and other elite media
There’s a ballot initiative in NYC to switch NYC mayoral elections to presidential years. Lots of arguments for and against but one very obvious result would be that turnout would go up and more people would vote in the mayoral, particularly infrequent voters. Notable Mamdani voted against it.

I’m always impressed by the creative experimental microcosms invented by Paolina’s group to answer their research questions

I have a whole thing about how the attitude Luis is describing is indicative of wider societal problems relating to entitlement, lazy consumerism, subjective reality microcosms, and being adverse to the concept of learning and growth mindsets.

But I don't have time right now. #ttrpg #dnd

PS I love those little microcosms of rotting trunks, they always make me think of miniature rail roads and hobbits.

Eh who am I kidding. I don't have money, I can't have babies, and I can't do physical work. No cult would want me cos they're all microcosms of capitalism.

Our world is made up of a myriad of microcosms, of tiny worlds, each with its own habitues, every one known to the others.
