Highlighting this Simons postdoc fellowship again. Looking for junior postdocs who might team up with Brian Enquist and me.

Keywords include nonlinear dynamics, reaction diffusion, population dynamics, metabolic scaling.

🧪🦋🌳
This is a great Simons foundation #postdoc opportunity for theorists with incipient interest. If you’re interested in working in quantitative laws of life in ecosystems, please message me.

Due date Dec. 4.

Note the 3 years w/in PhD condition.

This project was largely inspired by the approach taken by Durrett and Levin in "The Importance of Being Discrete (and Spatial)", and particularly their comparisons of interacting particle models and reaction-diffusion equations in studying spatial games.

These are called "Green Islands" but look more like ring-shaped "Atolls" rather than ordinary islands.
Presumably formed by the reaction-diffusion of microbes, microbial secreted chemicals, and plant cell states.

Starting with a microscopic reaction-advection-diffusion model, one can derive an SDE describing the limit of large (but finite) populations. Finite size effects can promote spatial pattern formation in regimes for which the uniform state is stable in the PDE limit. #SIAMDS21

reaction-diffusion systems as well as their discretizations, featuring a non-convex dissipation functional. The convergence is then obtained with variational methods by building on the recently introduced notion of gradient systems in continuity [3/4 of https://arxiv.org/abs/2504.06837v1]

Bon, c'est les vacances, personne à France Musique n'écoute la diffusion : depuis 5 minutes, il y a 5 secondes de silence toutes les 20 secondes et aucune réaction.

I got a ‘coral cup’ for @anikosandor and it looks even better in real life than on the @nervous_system webpage. Its design is based on the reaction-diffusion system, a model of pattern formation first described by Alan Turing. https://n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/blog/?p=8222

Some notes (based on others' notes) on the relatively niche (but cool!) topic of Doi-Peliti field theory, which transforms stochastic processes governed by master equations (notably reaction-diffusion systems) into path integrals and has been applied to neural circuits.

Physicists introduce approach to control wave patterns via fluid flows
The reliable control of traveling waves emerging from the coupling of oscillations and diffusion in physical, chemical and biological systems is a long-standing challenge within the physics community.
