#underclass
When Megyn Kelly says it’s not a big deal if she’s 17, she’s not talking about her own daughter but about the underclass

... This is, I now take it and for the first time understand from within, how the right feel about poor people accessing the welfare state, black underclass criminality, or fat people facing health difficulties. Just a seething contempt making one resist ameliorative measures that seem too kind. ...

I guess I square that circle by finding the underclass more sympathetic

every time they talk shit on men, they say they're going after their fathers and brothers, describe what their fathers and brothers despise alongside them out of the racialized underclass, and they largely police those fathers and brothers exclusively for shit that can be externalized to the Other

there is something about how people define their success/failure in relation to their peers w/o any notion of what quality of life is globally or was historically and a permanent racial underclass relieves some of those anxieties
Have to say, it makes you think given that Germany really was in catastrophic economic straits. Whereas we are... not that, in all reality. Almost as if superstructures of racial/class domination could be used to sustain a fascist and reactionary regime for years despite materialist fundamentals.

People in Lynnwood WA were afraid of the underclass coming up from *Seattle.* like they’re gonna go up and do wage theft or crypto scams or something

I think I could firmly reject what they do and condemn it without this. I think, for instance, that this is what I actually achieve re a lot of black underclass criminality.

What should be disturbing about ChatGPT driving people over the edge is that anyone can be mad. That perfectly normal person you'd never suspect of going over the edge. The boundaries between this underclass of pariahs & everybody else are blurred.

They simply know that so long as they protect Israel no harm will come to them, from the ruling at least. What they don't understand is that the moment the underclass rises up, it becomes prohibitively expense to protect them, and they will be discarded like all other unprofitable ventures.

The thing is services, by and large, are labor with a few steps removed. this is a result of labor being more valuable. If you want cheap services you need a impoverished underclass.

I guess the oligarchy is sustained by a vast underclass - hence the refusal to pay living wages. Diabolical really.

Also don't forget the Titanic, where the the underclass were busy shoveling coal into the burners and also drowning, while the upper crust was being guided safely into the lifeboats. Perfect metaphor for the poor who keep everything afloat, while the rich literally get bailed out

Sure, but let's not forget this succinct review of Bioshock Infinite.

Like I’ve said, the only future for this country that the republicans are willing to offer, is creating an underclass of perpetual debt slaves who the government can easily screw over by taking away everything they don’t own, but are working to keep, if they complain too much.

It remains wild to me that there aren't a) more pathways to permanent residency for *all* temporary foreign workers b) enforced minimum wages equal to those of the province they're in. What does it say about us that we are happy to have a permanent underclass whose labour isn't fully valued?
It says much about a society that is willing to profit from a group's labour, but unwilling provide them same dignity and support accorded to others.

It says bad things about the (white) underclass that we're not supposed to talk about

You're the outcast
You're the underclass
But you don't care
Because you're living fast

This is all part of the Yarvin/Vance/Musk/Thiel plan to imprison those deemed ‘not productive’ in AI/VR prisons.
Sounds crazy?
Take it straight from the mouth of Yarvin himself.

I think some of the posters on Bluesky are also extremely invested in their identities as the downtrodden underclass, and evidence that they’re pretty well off, actually, threatens them.

the issue here is that e.g. you already see the New Right (both secular and religious) bitching about how life has been too feminized, and for them, the valuation of e.g. care labour is seen as something for the female underclass to do, not them

And the answer to "should [group X] be allowed to treat [group Y] as a permanant underclass on the basis of ethnicity" is obviously no

Lefties talking about how great China is because of restaurant prices really shows how bad everyone wants there to be a huge underclass to provide services to them for very cheap

ic every crisis recession etc now as an excuse to commit wanton mass violence whenever the ruling class gets anxious ab the rise of a permanent underclass

it's so cool that china has re-created the american model of an exploited underclass of migrant labor but entirely domestically. let it never be said that socialism cannot produce economic innovation.

As I repeat the George Carlin quote for the umpteenth time, “It’s one big club, and we’re not in it.” We, The People, are not represented or protected or served by our so-called “leaders.” They serve capital, corporations. Any power or wealth they can siphon away from the underclass, Us, they will
