So... Dimensius was at the very least teased since Dragonflight's ending. He could've been handled a tad better.
But I think having him be TWW's ending makes the most sense if they wanted Xala to remain an interesting baddie. Dimensius himself works better as a jumping off point.

Xala isn't as "alive" as she used to be. Her soul is in there, but her body is one of Dynamis and regenerative Light Aether with the Dark Knight Soulstone at her core. It held aetherical backup from before she transformed (with slight error). She does need to eat and do regular stuff to sustain.

For Xala, the huge fight with her mother before she ran away, which also hurt Synnove and Wisli emotionally from her absence. Then there is when she left her ex without a word.
