#China knows the dependence is going to be less, so they need to hit now. Noveon Magnetics, the only U.S. manufacturer of rare earth magnets, still relies on China for raw materials.

Basically, while the tone towards China may be worse, the actions might not be. And the problem they have is that the US is not willing to do more on China. So it’s going to be very hard for Takaichi to get the US on the Japanese side on that front.

Takaichi’s nationalist stance would also lead to increased military spending, mainly benefiting the US, though foreign policy towards China might be moderated by the coalition with the pacifist Komeito party.
