👏Well done to GCPH's Mohasin & Jen and co-authors @profrachelbaker.bsky.social, @camdonaldson.bsky.social & Michael Roy on the publication of 'Creating the conditions for meaningful and effective PPIE in community-based public health research' researchinvolvement.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....
3% pa real terms increases in NHS spend is welcome. Many prestigious NHS reviews have called for this. BUT reviews did not factor in deserved pay hikes & highlighted necessity of matched increases for social care, without which NHS gridlock will continue. Still trouble ahead?
New book just out reviewing key approaches to funding health and social care based on economic evidence, including analysis of the current state of publicly funded health care and key policy considerations for governments link.springer.com/book/10.1007...
Financing Health and Social Care
This book argues that clinical leadership and politicians need to pay more attention to the economic issues underlying health and social care

Never post when angry. But I’m super-middle-class angry! For your amusement, back from wonderful trip to Melbourne, Canberra (bit of work) & Hanoi. 2 days before bags made Australia and now missing in Aberdeen, despite 3hr layovers at common denominator - Heathrow! 3rd runway? They cannae staff 2!
Paying our respects to Uncle Ho at his Mausoleum in Hanoi
What can you say about Hanoi? Beautiful, strange & vibrant all come to mind, and that’s just day 1! Check out Train St, where the locals and tourists sit in cafes to watch the train go by.
Just popped into this place on our way home from Australian National University!
In the pink after amazing Symposium on Valuing Life & Health with these folks, hosted by health economics and philosophy colleagues at Australian National University. John Brooke called me crazy. Such an honour @YunusCentreGCU
Excited about being in Melbourne to complete our personal grand slam of tennis Majors.
Reviews of NHS & social care launched in UK. Two questions:1) why separate when having parallel conversations about integrated care?2) why are expert reviews undertaken by Lancet/LSE, BMJ and Darzi not enacted? Blueprint needed. TEASER: I think I have answers. Watch this space over next month or 2
Heading to my other job at Australian National University this Thursday. Settling in with tennis in Melbourne first. Then interesting workshop on Valuing Life & Health for Public Policy with ANU philosophers & health economists & great friends from Newcastle University and Jan Abel Olsen from Tromso
Amazing performance last night at Aberdeen’s P&J Arena by Paul Heaton @paulheatonsolo.bsky.social
Last saw him at York Arts Centre in 1984 (I think!). Rianne Downey & band brilliant too as were the Zutons, last seen by us at Loch Lomond in 2005 (we think!).

Responses to Audit Scotland report claim (unspecified) reforms to NHS in Scotland are urgent. Reminiscent of UK Govt claims. ‘Reform’ - great word for politicians to use in avoiding requirement for more funding. Focus on primary care & prevention are good, but won’t overcome persistent neglect.
Scottish NHS reform 'urgently needed' - watchdog
Audit Scotland says decisions may needed about whether some services can be provided by the NHS.

Another ‘retirement weekend’ starts today, yes Thursday! Off to Braemar (yes, the coldest town in Britain!) and then Pitlochry, to see Sound of Music at its delightful theatre. Then back to Aberdeen via Glamis Xmas market. It’s a birthday treat. There’s a Beatles song with the number in the title!
Thanks all for wonderful welcomes to Bluesky. I will soon start messaging, mostly about health economics and health policy. I had no issues on X in that regard. It was mainly the rest of the toxicity around it that bugged me. Looking forward to critically-constructive chats.
