The importance of spaces for collective action, learning, and reflection are crucial, as is an openness to valuing processes of informal and non-formal learning and knowledge produced from within people’s everyday experience.” Choudry (2019): https://doi.org/10.1080/13642987.2019.1630382

Every morning waking up to news about how migration is Bad, Very Bad, Very Bad for the UK. That it's ruining this country. Picture it like water from the roof of a cave, falling on the head of every migrant who's made their home here: drip, drip, drip, every second, for years, making a hole...

Indeed, an dnone of it is helped by the mainstream media, including the BBC, that continue prioritising and amplifying negative and hateful narratives about immigration and immigrants

There are obviously also significant additional reasons for increases in hate. None of it's helped by politicians, including the government, using minorities and marginalised communities as political pawns though. That kind of toxicity feeds through into the public consciousness. 3/

In retrospect it's quite amazing how international the literary offer was when I was a young person living in Mexico- from the late 80s to the early 00s the average fiction and poetry reader had access to a really diverse global trove of authors rarely seen in British mainstream bookshops.

FWIW I'm personally in wait-and-see mode.

Since 2017 they have alternated between men and women authors (for Literature), but in all categories I think this year there's been like one woman and 9 men so far?

I used to be more switched on and I used to have read something by Literature Nobel Prize winners before they won the accolade. So, I haven't read him. I'm curious, but also disappointed it's another bloke. Ihttps://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/literature/2025/bio-bibliography/

First exciting item in the post today is Mechanical Comics by @ernestopriego.com! A set of wordless one-page comics created from the British Library's Mechanical Curator - like a digital oulipo. Enabling constraints.
A picture of some men climbing a precipe. This is the cover to Mechanical Comics.
