MacCormick is best-known today as one of the petitions in MacCormick v Lord Advocate 1953 SC 396 and as the father of the late Neil MacCormick (1941-2009), Regius Professor of Public Law and the Law of Nature and Nations at Edinburgh University, and many other things besides.

The tombstone of John MacCormick (1904-61), 'King' of Scotland in the early 1950s and a founder of the SNP (although he left the party in 1942). A family lair at Belday Cemetery, Chryston, but nationalist friends added their own tribute beneath the headstone.
