On my way to AAAR today. Can’t believe it’s already here. I’ve truly enjoyed working so closely with the Conference Planning Committee, Working Group Chairs, Special Symposia Organizers and Virtual over the last year planning this event. Special shoutout to Amy Sullivan and the Abstract Team!!
Trump is an idiot with a super fragile ego who trolls the internet. He’s a pathetic leader and is causing health care costs to rise for all of us. He needs to stop painting his face orange. I love how he thinks he looks better painted as an orangutan.
America is a very sad place to be right now. The extreme right has really taken over and the hate and stupidity is never ending. I hope a change is coming at the midterms. I’m hopeful that people are unhappy with high costs for food, rent, utilities and medical insurance premiums rising to vote!
Alan and I got legally married yesterday at the Durham county courthouse. After being together 20 years we felt it was time, especially when minority rights are slowly being chipped away. It was lovely having my parents and our 3 wonderful friends in attendance. Our big celebration is in late Oct.
Congratulations to my former PhD student Caz Armstrong for publishing their last chapter of their PhD today in ACS Earth and Space Chemistry!

Congratulations to Dr. Michael Davern for passing his PhD defense today. He is my 13th PhD student to finish, and my 2nd analytical chemistry PhD. Thank you Professors Barbara Turpin, Yue Zhang and Sarah Brooks for your close collaboration with us! Thank you EPA and NC Collaboratory for funding.
HORRIBLE NEWS AT EPA. IF THIS DOESN’T make your blood boil I don’t know what will. This attack on the environmental and public health will affect many generations of Americans. The Trumpsters are tearing down science, the truth and protection of our public. Terrible.

After 20 years of being together Alan and I applied for our marriage license today. Wedding bells happening within next 60 days. We are going to get married at courthouse but have a Halloween party for our celebration, which marks our 20 year anniversary and Alan’s favorite holiday! ❤️❤️
Oh god! The idiot has started World War 3 with Iran!!!!

Feels bittersweet to be promoted this week with all the chaos around us. I’m trying to be happy but so hard to be seeing students, colleagues and friends in government and academia struggling. I’m depressed by all this but ready to do my part to fight back and also help the general public understand
Thanks Joost. we have to push back. This is getting out of control now. Science, knowledge and truth is under attack. I agree RTP, DC and Boulder are being horribly affected right now.
Thanks Paul. You should have seen the memo they sent. Unbelievable the language
Thanks Joost. I’m devastated for folks here in NC and also for scientists, government employees and public health. So scary.
Tim I’m so sorry this happened to you too. We need to figure out as a community how to communicate this to our communities and state governments
Thanks Joel. I’m devastated and for the folks in NC.
It’s unbelievable. NC residents are so concerned about PFAS.
Unbelievable and evil. Trump administration just terminated my EPA grant focused on PFAS. They say they support PFAS. All lies. This is so crazy! The memo we received was ridiculous!!!!
Congratulations to my first year CHEM PhD student Samantha Bell for receiving one of these fellowships from the NC Water Resources Research Institute to study SOA formation from VOCs released from HABs.

Maybe we need to offer more of these opportunities through our science organizations
Feeling very depressed and down about how the malicious and intentional attack on the science, education and government communities is occurring in the US. Seeing students and colleagues struggle right now for no fault of their own hurts. I want to do more but how?!!!
I’m putting on my Conference Chair hat and reminding everyone we are a week out from the Abstract deadline of May 9. Please remember no extensions will be given. I saw the Buffalo venue with Amy Sullivan (AAAR President). We loved it and think you will too!!! aaarabstracts.com/2025/registe...
