This is great Stu - super format 👏

It wasn't just Stone - Forest were a real menace - this win extended their run of just 1 defeat in 12 games at WHL. They'd win the next two as well.

Ruel Fox makes his Spurs debut following his £4.25m move from Newcastle...but it's the opposite right-winger Steve Stone who scores the only goal of the game as we lose to Forest. Stone always seemed to play well against us 🙄

3 goals in 14 second half minutes enable us to turnaround a 1-0 deficit at Charlton. It's a Gazza masterclass with a stunning goal and assist for Lineker...and just for @jilllewis33.bsky.social there's a Mitchell Thomas overhead kick too!

Thanks - I agree. It's not just Spurs of course and it was further evidence of how much football changed and embraced medicine and science properly during the 90s. Not quickly enough for Darren and our benefit though.

We beat Villa for the first time in 6 years with Allan Nielsens first Spurs goal.
However the talking point is Mark Bosnich giving a nazi salute to the Paxton which results in police investigation!
Do you remember this incident?

On this Spurs Day in 1988...Gazza stars and scores a trademark free kick in this 2-1 League Cup win over Notts County at WHL...
youtu.be/KPkHpb6PPqk?..., earlier that afternoon he'd got a fishing hook caught in his neck!
It is one of many amazing Gazza stories included in my book.

We famously ended our 73-year Anfield winless run in 1985...but we only had to wait another 18 months until our next win there (sadly no footage!)
On this Day in 1986 Clive Allen's goal gave us a 1-0 win and Nico Claesen made his debut. Having a Belgian in your side was incredibly exotic in 1986!

I spent last night writing my running order for future 93/94 season review pod. I will now spend the rest of the weekend traumatised remembering Kevin Scott conceding penalties.
80s90sspursbooks.bsky.social
Yep you've got those right. He dropped one against Villa in the charity shield - in fact he had a howler in his first home game - a 4-0 loss to West Ham too.
The Barca one was 1982 - it was the game they butchered us and indeed he threw one in.

On this Spurs day...seemingly this has been an International window for many years as our last game on 10 Oct was 1987 with a 2-1 loss @ Norwich.
Can't find any footage but it did prove to be Ray Clemence's final game for us. Aged 40 he succumbed to injury.
Where does he rank among our best keepers?

On this Spurs day in 1990 we beat Hartlepool away in the Littlewoods Cup 2nd leg (having won 5-0 at home). This might be the first time I've seen this footage?

Kevin Dearden made his debut and there's rare rotation with Gazza only a sub.
80s90sspursbooks.bsky.social
Hard to go against that @positivespurs.coys.social

Could overthink this but Gazza was my boyhood hero.

Currently VDV too.

Quite frankly who cares about the international tonight but on this Spurs day in 1991 it was also England v Wales in the shape of Spurs v Swansea in the Rumbelow's Cup 2nd Round 2nd Leg.

Trailing 1-0 from the 1st leg in Wales we turned it around with this 5-1 win:

Darren Anderton is a Spurs legend. This is a must-listen for anyone who lived through the 90s or wants an easy listening entry point to a pivotal time in the Club’s history.

Here’s something for your morning commute, run or dog walk - my interview with Darren Anderton which is episode 1 of my new podcast.

Cameo appearance by @notthatmilo.bsky.social too!

I’m warming you up for bigger roles Milo!
80s90sspursbooks.bsky.social
Thank you - very kind of you to say so but still very much a role for you. My period only covers 15.38% of the clubs entire history 🤓🤣
80s90sspursbooks.bsky.social
Brave of you to mention that one!
80s90sspursbooks.bsky.social
I’m sure there’s some objective metrics in play here but the first ever World Cup match I ever watched was Cameroon beating Argentina 1-0 in 1990. Wonder where that is placed?

After the chaos of September we settled into some calmer performances with this 1-1 draw v QPR.
youtu.be/MHwq0k43PBk?...
However, there was still drama with Kevin Scott and Les Ferdinand both sent off for 'handbags'
QPR mgr Gerry Francis was back at WHL within 6 weeks 👀
