It’s been a brutal year.

yes, this is a very good article about it, within the context of two other movies released this year as well that do similar things

Then I’d say you don’t know anything about baseball.

“Goodall lived her life with a purpose, not just rooted in her work with chimpanzees, but also in her mission to conserve our natural world before it’s too late."

I wrote about the life and legacy of Jane Goodall for @ebertvoices.bsky.social
Your Life Matters: Jane Goodall (1934-2025) | Tributes | Roger Ebert
An ode to the acclaimed primatologist and conservationist, whose lifelong work was captured beautifully on film for decades.

I have often sought guidance from your ghost, Odie, which I assume is able to traverse time. I have not been let down.

Sorry, I'm not seeing the missing word here

The amount of white men who are like: how dare you point out this movie is making fun of me kinda confirms the punchline
812filmreviews.com
Like people think that a movie featuring Black revolutionaries, where two white men are espousing how much they love black women, and features an entire arc about immigration isn’t at all about race?
812filmreviews.com
I find it hilarious that I’ve gotten people complaining about me looking at ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER through the lens of race lol

I just had someone on Twitter push back against this and I was basically like: What do you think you were laughing at during the whole movie??? Truly.

Ngl the last time I saw BIG TROUBLE LITTLE CHINA I was 20 and high in a friend’s basement 😂

What I find so fascinating about this movie is how many (white) people aren’t willing to contend with the idea that Bob is a loving father but also an absolute idiot and the movie is very obviously making fun of him. Him and Willa are like Homer and Lisa.

Fantastic piece. Forgot The Mastermind was out soon, but now quite interested in it if it’s being discussed alongside these other films.

I was so wondering if you were going to respond to this skeet 🤣🤣🤣

Once THE MASTERMIND drops this week, I will of course share this piece again because significantly more people will have seen it and it's among Kelly Reichardt's best films.

And I also really dug the Netflix baseball doc: WHO KILLED THE MONTREAL EXPOS.
812filmreviews.com
I have never jumped at reviewing a film quicker. The Netflix documentary WHO KILLED THE MONTREAL EXPOS is totally my jam. It's a heartbreaking tribute to a fanbase that deserves to get their team back.

Who Killed the Montreal Expos? movie review (2025) | Roger Ebert
While it's light on the actual baseball, it doesn’t forget the fans.

I also gave a perfect 4-star rating to the documentary THERE WAS, THERE WAS NOT.
812filmreviews.com
I really love THERE WAS, THERE WAS NOT, an aching documentary about the erasure of the Republic of Artsakh as seen through the eyes of four women.

My 4-star review via @ebertvoices.bsky.social
There Was, There Was Not movie review (2025) | Roger Ebert
It's a film that's as aching as it is defiant, reflecting its diverse subjects.

"While these white men’s remoteness aren’t of equal consequence...they’re all uniformly moronic people. Their idiocy in turn reveals the professionalism of people of color and the direct action that occurs when they are not present."
