🚨 The NYC 2025 Voter Guide is back! 🚨

We’re excited to release our take on what's on our ballots—and the best choices to move NYC forward.

@yesonaffhousing.bsky.social Questions 2-5
✅ Yes on 6

This amendment doesn't change the existing land use process for most projects.

It simply fast-tracks affordable housing that *isn't being proposed or built* today given the obstacles placed by the current system.

Vote yes—and learn more at nyc2025.com ✅✅✅

Today, production of affordable housing is too slow—and not equitably distributed across the city.

NIMBY council members don't approve new homes in their neighborhoods even though *we're all* suffering from the shortage.

When New Yorkers flip over their ballots this fall, they’ll find important charter amendment questions—all of which deserve a resounding YES vote ✅

Today we're focusing on Question 2, fast-tracking affordable housing approvals 👇

We’re already seeing the effects of climate change across NYC.

@sandynurse.bsky.social’s “cool pavement” pilot program will not only improve livability for New Yorkers—it will lay the foundation for the climate-resilient streetscape we need to combat this crisis.

Getting all of @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social’s ideas off the ground will require collaboration with the council and state legislature—but making buses faster is an achievable and profound quality of life win for NYC that we look forward to seeing happen in a Mamdani administration.

The $350M Pier 94 redevelopment project not only brings new film studios to NYC—it fixes a major bottleneck on the Hudson River Greenway, one of the busiest greenways in the country.

This is what good urban development looks like!

New York City has the slowest buses in the nation. Automated camera enforcement (ACE) is a key tool to speed them up:

"Routes that use ACE have seen bus speeds increased by 5%, with some corridors experiencing a travel time jump as high as 30%"
Four new MTA buses now have cameras to catch cars illegally parked, improperly using bus lanes
Four more MTA bus routes in NYC have automated camera enforcement to catch vehicles improperly using bus lanes and busways.

This combination of big-picture passion *and* seriousness about actually delivering significantly informed our recommendation of Mamdani as the right choice for mayor.

💯

When we started Abundance NY last summer, our very first programming was a monthly happy hour.

We knew that folks looking for a political home needed to have fun making change. Every month we get 120+ attendees.

Now our community has grown to over 4,000—an undeniable political force.

I'm a firm believer in the power of the YIMBY happy hour. Effective movements are built on communities, and to build community you have to establish a personal connection. If your group doesn't have a monthly happy hour, and obsessively inviting new people, it's time to start one!

We can change that this fall.

Our ballots will include steps to speed the creation of new homes—and to enable building where it's currently blocked.

Vote YES on Questions 2-4 to get us out of the housing crisis.

How'd it get this way? The process for approving new homes is deeply broken.

It's too slow, too expensive, too onerous—with too many veto points.

Some parts of the city don't get any new affordable housing because of political opposition enabled by this system.
abundanceny.bsky.social
How bad is it?

Bad. Over half of households are rent burdened.

Rising rents, eviction rates, sheltered and street homelessness, and population loss are all out of control.

Something must change.

New York City is in a housing affordability crisis.

With a 50-year-low 1.4% vacancy rate, we need to create more affordable housing—fast.

The Jamaica Neighborhood Plan will deliver:

☑️ Nearly 12,000 homes
☑️ 4,000 permanently affordable
☑️ 7,000 new jobs

This is a huge opportunity to make a dent in our housing crisis. We look forward to the full City Council approving the plan later soon!

Par for the course: An article about new buildings quotes preservationists—who seem more interested in blocking new homes than preserving old ones—but doesn’t acknowledge the severe shortage of homes that’s driving rents ever upward.
abundanceny.bsky.social
Local Law 97’s carbon emissions caps are an important part of creating a greener New York—but we must balance the climate gains against against the costs to housing.

We’re encouraged to see @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social offering ideas to speed up sustainability retrofits in city buildings.

We agree with Ross Barkan: more voters = a stronger democracy. Let’s approve even-year elections when we go to the polls this November.
