🏡 In Marblehead, the Marblehead Housing Coalition ran two campaigns to bring their town into compliance with the MBTA Communities Act.

They sparked the most-attended Town Meeting in years—and even though a referendum paused progress, they’re not giving up. The work continues. 💪

🌆 In Roslindale, Rozzidents For More Rozzidents led the way—completing the first small area plan under Boston’s Squares + Streets initiative!

Their zoning updates open the door to new multifamily housing above shops + community spaces.

Boston can’t force the Fed to lower interest rates, but we should pursue an approach similar to what Cambridge has done: increase capacity across the whole city (not just small areas) and combine that with policies that protect affordable housing developments from getting targeted by stupid lawsuits
abundanthousingma.org
Given the desire for more action and dissatisfaction with current approaches, Boston residents showed broad support for a variety of policies that would make it easier to build more homes and increase housing choices. Support for these policies was strongest among renters and younger households.

These results align with surveyed attitudes on efforts to improve housing affordability. Three-quarters of residents say the City government is doing only a fair or poor job on efforts to make Boston more affordable

A new poll from the MassInc Polling Group, commissioned by AHMA, found that overwhelming majorities of Boston residents want the city to take stronger action to address the housing shortage. This support cuts across surveyed demographics, including renters and owners, neighborhood, and income.

📊 New poll: Bostonians want more housing.

Large majorities of both renters + homeowners support bold reforms to tackle the city’s housing shortage — and most say not enough has been done. 🏙️

A new poll from @massincpolling.bsky.social and @abundanthousingma.org shows that Bostonians overwhelmingly: 1) reject the status quo, 2) want more homes built, and 3) think city officials should take action.

Local leaders have a charge from the voters: pass pro-housing policies. Like, now.

Congratulations to housing advocates and elected officials in Salem for taking this important step towards abundant housing for all! 🎉

With the elimination of minimum parking requirements, housing developers can still add parking spaces to multi-family developments as they see fit, but they won’t be mandated by city rules to build unnecessary parking spaces. (3/4)
abundanthousingma.org
Until recently, Salem’s zoning code required 1.5 parking spaces for every new home. But parking isn’t cheap — building an underground space can cost more than $40,000. These parking minimums drove up housing costs and made it harder to create new homes. (2/4)
