The lines are a little muddled: I started drawing with no clear final vision in mind, just the concept (the Thriae + Hollow Knight). I might return to the idea another time and improve the clarity of the line work. We’ll see 🤷‍♀️

Naturally, Barbie as Rapunzel is the best OG Barbie film (I would sing that song to my hairbrush and leave on the window sill at night in the hopes that I would wake up in the morning to discover a magical paintbrush that could create both portals and ball gowns), but P&P is a banger.

I should have had more objects caught in the light, a silver of a room, a sense of place, rather than just an awkward table, and everything should have had normal shadows except for one that was different, that was looking out from the dark with eyes.

Only three days in, and we have come across what makes Artober/Inktober challenges so hard for me: I do not like to show my work until it is in a state that I am happy with. But that’s not what a daily art challenge is about. Inevitably, you end up sharing art that you are not satisfied with.

It is not an exaggeration to say that this book has changed the trajectory of my life; since starting work on it last spring, I have drawn nearly everyday, built a portfolio, written several picture book dummies, and begun writing a novel. Here’s to Oscar and cheers to many more projects to come!!
