Not often I agree with your criticisms of Greens but definitely do here.
But he is also clearly a good listener and reader, and he’s listening to and reading the right people.
He clearly isn’t steeped in an intellectual tradition in the way that some of us are in that, by his own admission, he came to Green/Left politics in his 30s, within the last decade, rather than growing up with it. I suspect that sitting on the cusp also makes him better at communicating with others
The position of the Green Party of England and Wales is to adopt the position of the Scottish and Welsh Greens, both of which are I favour of independence.
Darren Grimes thinks my interview with @zackpolanski.bsky.social makes him a traitor. What do you think? open.substack.com/pub/abolishw...
I enjoyed interviewing @zackpolanski.bsky.social for this, because he was honest about his squeamishness (about Englishness) but then confronted and explained it, and responded to being pushed on it by opening up, thinking aloud, and challenging himself, not closing down. Do read the whole thing.
In your lifetime it has become the main facilitator of money laundering on earth.
That’s all very well, but Britain currently has the most centralised and corporately captured state in the democratic world. Unless you have an alternate viable path towards something properly democratic, why should we stay under it?
Not necessarily any moreso than within Ireland now.
I think maybe you need to consider more closely what dismantling the British state would do to facilitate international solidarity..?

Not earth shattering by any means, but this means that in the best case scenario for the Greens, SNP and PC in the 2029 election we could see a bloc of 100ish MPs open to the idea of granting referendums on independence to Scotland and Wales in the next Parliament
Yeah, most of the interview was about Englishness!
I’m glad you enjoyed it, thanks for sharing.
