I enjoyed interviewing @zackpolanski.bsky.social for this, because he was honest about his squeamishness (about Englishness) but then confronted and explained it, and responded to being pushed on it by opening up, thinking aloud, and challenging himself, not closing down. Do read the whole thing.

In your lifetime it has become the main facilitator of money laundering on earth.

That’s all very well, but Britain currently has the most centralised and corporately captured state in the democratic world. Unless you have an alternate viable path towards something properly democratic, why should we stay under it?

Not necessarily any moreso than within Ireland now.

I think maybe you need to consider more closely what dismantling the British state would do to facilitate international solidarity..?

Not earth shattering by any means, but this means that in the best case scenario for the Greens, SNP and PC in the 2029 election we could see a bloc of 100ish MPs open to the idea of granting referendums on independence to Scotland and Wales in the next Parliament

Yeah, most of the interview was about Englishness!

I’m glad you enjoyed it, thanks for sharing.

The @scottishgreens.org told me they would announce their figure this week, and have had a bit of a membership drive since then. When they do, and with continued @greenparty.org.uk growth, I suspect this will confirm the Tories have been overtaken.

The Green Party passed 110,000 members, after putting on 5,000 in 24 hours. Plus c. 8,000 @scottishgreens.org (probably now up a bit too) and 500ish @greenpartyni.org members (minus some duplicates) = c. 118,000. The Daily Mail report that Tory membership is in fact now “below 120,000”.

I’m calling it - I think it’s now very likely that there are more Green members across the UK than Tories as of today.

The Green surge is breaking limits! 😲

Together, we can make hope normal again! 💚

Last year, @TheGreenParty had an income of £5.2m. £2.1m of that came from membership fees. If the now 100,00 members pay the same average fee, that will be £3.6m from subs. That’s an income boost of 26% before you even look at fundraising, activists, etc. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

More people have joined @greenparty.org.uk in the past couple of days than were members in total when I first joined.

I am a Green member talking about the Greens being just two points behind Labour.
