Prof of Medicine @hughmontgomery.bsky.social says climate is biggest risk to health.

“I am scared” he says.

Web of impacts of climate lead to wars and societal collapse.

Plant-based diets and cuts to new oil and gas are among the tools Gov needs to promote.

Food security scientist @profpaulbehrens.bsky.social says farmers don’t know how to get through the next floods and droughts.

Gov needs to support plan-rich diets to support farmers and health and reduce food waste for cleaner air & water for healthy people, soils, nature, and climate.

Professor of Climate Change Tim Lenton @exeter.ac.uk describes tipping points cascades.

Coral reefs appear to be doomed.

AMOC collapse will both freeze and superheat UK, and halve wheat and maize globally.

Positive tipping points, eg death of oil & gas from policy are essential for survival.

UK's climate & energy approach risks scraping the bottom of the barrel with attempts to pump more oil & gas from North Sea. But real risk is policy of ’tiebacks’ that allows further extraction from old fields paves the way for the development of huge Rosebank oilfield.

Profoundly infuriating. Every single barrel of oil pumped moves us deeper into dangerous climate change. The science is absolutely clear about this: the carbon budget to limit to 1.5°C is practically gone. Tipping points loom. We need rapid fossil fuel PHASE OUT.

the entire thing is mind boggling but how does one draw points and lines with such precision and consistency, exactly where they need them and do it so fast? i can't even sign my name the same way twice. we're not the same.

It's funny to have to make this case but tbqh we don't make it enough: human efforts to counter fossil fuel use have had *at least some* effect on total greenhouse gas emissions since the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2015, and there's some evidence to back up this position

COP30 TEXT ANALYSIS: One way to read dense COP text is to focus on the verbs. These are helpfully italicised – and for good reason.

MOSTLY INACTIVE: Carbon Brief analysis of the “global mutirão” text finds 69 inactive verbs, requiring no action, against 32 active verbs.
