Sunday reading from me over at @inverse.com on the ongoing strength of "friendslop" and the ways in which players continue to expand online spaces beyond developer intentions.

People feel isolated and anxious RN but keep seeking fresh ways to connect online.

Friendslop Is The Biggest Gaming Trend in 2025 — And It’s Just Getting Started
2025 is the year gaming embraced friendslop. From new games like R.E.P.O and Peak to the friendslop-ification of Fortnite & GTA, it's just getting started.

Look how good this @sifsweetman.bsky.social piece is. One of the many extremely normal moons of Realis, Halfmoon Twaincut.

If you’re at PAX Unplugged, be sure to grab a postcard from the Possible Worlds booth!

Of course. This may in fact happen by midnight. The thing is that Mamdani will be able to say 'well that's not what he said when I met with him' and keep it moving.
Thing is, when Mamdani does something early next year that challenges some Trump admin nonsense, you *know* that Trump is going be extra angry and suggest it's a backstabbing, noting how "nice" he was to him in the Oval Office as if that means Mamdani should now agree to all of Trump's demands.

Next time a Republican whines when they get called a fascist, just remind them that Trump says he doesn't mind the label!
Q: Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?

MAMDANI: I've spoken about--

TRUMP: That's okay. You can just say yes. I don't mind.

It’s very stupid on a basic level, which is “the market is not actually liquid or transparent and doesn’t capture all the world’s information”

Following Matt Levine's column on prediction markets, and the conclusion is that they're not getting big because of techbro philosophy.

Prediction markets are big because they schmoozed into being unregulated sports gambling. Literally, bookmaking on sporting events. That's the money influx.

There's a lot to say about the Roblox CEO interview, and the right place to start is definitely his answers on children's safety, because that's kind of the fire that is hottest and closest.

However, I have to also say, the polymarket stuff is real 'summation of our neoliberal dumpster fire' shit.

The new episode of Media Club Plus covering After Earth is out. It's a much much different movie than previous two, so that's pretty good news. Glad to have @austinwalker.bsky.social joining us for this one for reasons that become obvious in the first few minutes. Mediaclub.plus or your podcast app!

FYI: turning off "Smart features" also turns off spell check and the promotions and social tabs. And more.

In effect, a lot of traditional tools in gmail are switched off if you don't let them upload your contracts, love notes, and sad messages to your friends into their plagiarism machine.
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

far and away my most hated software trend of the last 3 years is bundling old, useful features alongside LLM horseshit i don't want and putting them all under one fucking setting.

gmail now has gemini tied directly to their existing email categorization feature! can't have one without the other!

It is funny that this paper (on rhyming prompts supposedly "jailbreaking" LLMs more successfully than prose) begins by alluding to Plato's republic making poetry illegal, which I presume is also going to be the policy response to wide adoption of this type of attack against slop machines.
