Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

You and what army?

No, really, Matt: if you want to deport and jail all my neighbors, you’re going to need an army.

We’re in the real world now bucko. This isn’t internet land where you declare something and it becomes true. You need actual dudes. So where’s your army?

"Epic based Latinx queen" is one of those phrases that you'd only utter if you'd spent 3 years hanging out with Groypers on Twitter or doing coke in Dimes Square
that zei squirrel person was always kind of a lunatic but their posts becoming this overtly racist is a textbook example of how elon-era twitter posters become worse people

these are significant asks that would make a big difference
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

"That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod:

A Dem Senator’s Harsh Takedown of Trump Hits Home: “Breaking Point”
As Trump scrambles to contain the damage from the latest ICE horrors, Senator Chris Murphy offers a sharp indictment of Trump-ICE lawlessness—and explains how Dems can meet the urgency of the moment.

Trump take sports bar
Tonight, most (if not all) the Zipps bar locations throughout Maricopa were raided by federal agents. Community members arrived to legally observe and agents pepper sprayed the crowd least one location. Workers were taken.

Minneapolis City Council member Jason Chavez has been a hero throughout, advocating, witnessing, speaking up, getting assaulted by ICE thugs, but still never failing to help the people he represents. Bravo @jchavezmpls.bsky.social
Dear neighbor, It is not the time to let your guard down, nor is it the time to stop organizing.

While Bovino will be leaving Minneapolis along with some U.S. Border Patrol agents, there is still no specific plan that has been communicated to the public. 1/

Also a lot of Republicans probably want Miller gone. The videos of ICE operations are toxic and with him out of the way maybe the person in Trump's ear (Wiles?) will get him to do that affordability pivot they've been begging for.

this is the right demand

when you are pressing the advantage you need to make your demands things that can be accomplished *now*

policy moves too slow for these sorts of moments. the momentum will be lost before anything can pass Congress even in the most optimistic of timelines.

I hear it to @nicklutsko.bsky.social singing Dan Bongino
Now I can admit that I always hear “Greg Bovino” in the voice of Rachel Bloom singing “West Covina”
BREAKING Greg Bovino has been removed as Border Patrol "commander at large" and will return to El Centro Calif, where he is expected to retire soon. A stunning turnaround after Pretti killing. Bovino's traveling blue city crackdown is over www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

The Federal Tort Claims Act covers torts committed by US employees in the course of their employment which would include these statements. Unfortunately it bars recovery for intentional torts like defamation and they aren’t covered by the exceptions.
It’s not the focus at the moment (and I do not know the legal ins and outs) but I am curious about whether anybody is concerned about civil liability for some of the statements that were made about Pretti.

I think the thing that killed the administration was that they were so gung-ho to find a reason that Pretti deserved to die that they accidentally declared that that the second amendment isn't real.
I have been waiting for this signal from Senator Rand Paul.

Senator Paul, Chairman of Senate Homeland Security Committee follows House committee. Sends letters to heads of ICE, CBP, USCIS to testify in public hearing.
