In this week's newsletter I wrote about Republicans' plan to win in 2026. Is it doing popular things? No, it's trying to get Democrats to nominate candidates with lots of baggage radio-free-america.beehiiv.com/p/why-are-mi...
Why Are Michigan Republicans Meddling in a Democratic Primary?st
Michigan Republicans target a Democratic primary, strategically backing a controversial candidate to influence the state senate special election race in a calculated political maneuver.

Checking in on the Mamdani-haters Twitter list and yup they're all mad that he hasn't made all the snow in the city melt yet.

Not enough is made of the fact that David Brooks left his wife for his research assistant who was half his age and wrote a book about how it was moral, actually
That was during his foray into ehtics, government thing should work out better.

I'm in a bunch of subreddits for shows that stopped making new episodes and they're pretty much all slash fiction now

Very important, re: Trump
it’s remarkable he’s hitting this point with a bunch of shoes that haven’t really dropped yet. Epstein, the economy, foreign policy are all holding him down but none of them have hit a real flashpoint. Tremendous downside potential!

The positive thing here is that she's been frozen out of doing her actual job so she's just doing makework that'll go nowhere. The negative thing here is that um, I think we have a DNI for a reason?
The Trump administration recognized that Tulsi Gabbard was wildly unqualified/too much of a nutjob for her post running U.S. intelligence, so they've given her some busy work (the busy work is trying to unravel American democracy). www.wsj.com/politics/ele...

I agree with this crank take - once Trump's approvals sink under 40 that's when Republicans start fleeing the ship goodpoliticsbadpolitics.substack.com/p/trump-unpo...
Trump, Unpopular
Enough to start convincing Republicans that there's a problem.

🚨"They're stealing the car!"

As Tom Homan vows "safer" ICE operations, ICE rammed into a driver's car in Minneapolis—in front of an elementary school—then chased him. After failing to catch him—they stole his car. "Back up before I f*cking spray you!" ICE yelled at observers ⬇️

Just a reminder, the greatest living American historian filmmaker, Ken Burns, released a 720 min exploration of every facet of the American revolution using zero generative AI and paying for all of its assets instead of cobbling it from stolen data, then he gave it away for free on PBS this year.
First trailer for Darren Aranofsky's new AI animated series 'On This Day... 1776'

• Tells short narrative stories about the Revolutionary War

• Uses Gen AI tools, including tech made by Google DeepMind

Can Minnesota pay Tom Homan $50,000 to get ICE out?

Been thinking about this and the Cult of the Operator is what the right glommed onto as the ideal of physical courage but seeing a bunch of burnouts using that gear to terrorize regular Americans has flipped the script.
I do think that a possibly underrated dynamic in The Horrors is that the Right as it has reconstituted itself under Trump legitimately can’t understand sincere moral or physical courage

Sidney Powell got her info from a woman who thought she might be a ghost and learned about election fraud through time travel.
And a top DOJ official, Ed Martin, posted a picture of himself this morning with ex-Trump attorney Sidney Powell, who made fantastical claims about the 2020 election and was sanctioned over "Kraken" lawsuits seeking to have the results thrown out in four states Trump lost.

This is all stupid bullshit but I remain pretty disgusted at how things like marriage and having children are treated like Xbox achievements instead of actually loving and caring for someone else. Yeah I’m going to work 70 hours a week but definitely need a spouse, her name is Beth or something idk
