If I have one tip for people coming to Scotland, it’s this - slow down. Take the back roads. Don’t rush from the airport or the ferry to get up north.

There’s so much to see on the way. Here’s Forres, Dundee, Fife, and Angus.
A row of colourful beach huts face the sea. Two women are walking past, on the stony path near the beach. In the background you can see the hills of the Black Isle. Dundee railway bridge is silhouetted in the rising sun. The sky glows orange and gold, reflected in the River Tay. A row of cottages in a fishing village in Fife in the glow of the setting sun. They have red roofs and whitewashed walls - some of them are in the typical red stone that’s commonly seen in this area. A small country road lined with autumnal trees and shrubs.

Did that thing where I thought ‘If I move the chest from the hall into the bedroom, we could hang our coats next to the door’.

And now there’s a shelf in the middle of the living room, toiletries all over the bedroom floor, boxes in the hall, and it’s utter chaos.

That’s awful. Our GP still does house visits in cases like this.

If it fits inside the shower, you could use it there. You can lean it against the wall.

I spent ages researching this earlier this year cause our washing was always in the way!

I looked into putting a dehumidifier in a closet for drying clothes. It’s a temporary issue for us cause there are currently 5 adults in a small apartment. Once kids move out, it’ll be easier.

I can use the Dachboden in summer.

That’s only the washing times. The dryer takes longer depending on the items. I sometimes have a bit of a dryer stau though so I do non-dryer things in between dryer washes.

We only had a wee fault and that was quickly sorted. They never mentioned that it wasn’t stocked appropriately, thankfully.

Maybe read the rest of my posts on it. bsky.app/profile/lynn...

Well, that euphoria was short-lived, wasn’t it.

To be clear - I wrote that before I knew anything about the winner, and her politics. Lots of people who know more about Venezuela have posted since then. I’m learning, ok.

We have one that goes over the bath. Weirdly, from Black & Decker. It’s not perfect (some of the poles are coming apart) but the function is great. You can lay it flat too - for drying wool jumpers etc.

Same here. Still cheaper than US, obviously. But in comparison to NHS, it’s a lot more expensive.

As I get older, I resent the expense less, as the waiting times are much shorter than in UK. And they cover more than the NHS.

Do they really? Is that if you don’t use them at all, or is there a sliding scale?

When we were in Switzerland, I wrote about our bunker.

We had one in our house in Switzerland! Don’t know why they didn’t have it here - I’ve read stories from people sheltering in their (normal) cellars in Germany during bombing raids.

Ooh. That’s helpful. We will be travelling with a group of OAPs next year and anything to make it slightly less stressful would help. Is it worth looking for a hotel in that area then?

That was always amazing, when they wheeled the telly in!

That’s true. I always wonder if Oktoberfest is a part of it. Seems to be a wave in Munich this time of year. That’s when I caught it.

I know! I feel like they may take my German citizenship away. Doing it when my daughter is out of the house like a teen having a party when the parents are gone.

Was at the doc yesterday to pick up my prescription and there were a LOT of people in masks there. Mistakenly went just before the Infektionssprechstunde. Not sure if it was more than normal, but it was noticeably busy.

I was 9yrs old and remember watching this - I think of Newsround.

At 9:03 am, the Mary Rose broke the surface of the water, seeing sunlight (such as you can on a cloudy day!) for the first time in 437 years.

Haha. Good point about not encouraging westward travel!

I’m going to try it out for a couple of weeks and see if anyone notices.

Thus endet the efficient Hausfrau Posts of the day.

My new routine:

1. Dark wash / dryer - 20m
2. Dark wash / hang up - 20m
3. White wash / dryer - 20m
4. Towels (longer wash) - 60m
5. If needed, bedding - 60m

3ish hours - clothes washed. Dried by 1pm, folded, put away. Towels/bedding done by 4pm. No laundry piles for days.
lynnnothegger.bsky.social
Washing day was always an utter pain. Our laundry machines are in the hall, so it’s a day of chaos and piles of washing.

Last week, I watched a video where a guy explained that the shortest wash is enough - think back to days gone by. No one scrubbed clothes for 90 mins. Also kinder to clothing.

Truly the best thing about a ‘smart home’. Other than being able to turn on the heating on your way home from holiday.
