Today, academics, ask yourself:

Am I bringing enough of a Flann O'Brien energy to my R&R work?

This is outrageously propagandistic
When it comes to modern war, Ireland is a high-value target: its waters on the western fringe of Europe contain three-quarters of all undersea cables in the northern hemisphere. Despite this, is unprotected and unprepared.

An #FTEdit 🧵 on why this determinedly neutral nation is Europe's weak link 👇

Looking forward to speaking at the History Research Seminar at Maynooth tomorrow. I'll be talking about 'the news' and how its disruptive qualities are anything but new. The context will be the British Empire, particularly Ireland and America. Very grateful to conveners for the invitation.
A great lineup for this semester's Department of History Research Seminar in Maynooth. This is open to all so do join us and please share widely.

Early indications looking very like I will be home with a sick child.

The theme of today's Teams meetings will be... *phlegmatic interruptions*

This looks fantastic, and I'm very sorry I can't be there - you can see Frances and Yinmei, two of the students I'm currently involved in supervising, give talks though and I can promise that both will be very worth your while

I continue to be surprised at how under the radar this is going, considering that it’s more consequential than a lot of the things that #spéirghorm gets worked up about.

There’ll be major handwringing on here if we get a “majority of parents support Church patronage of primary schools” result.
If you're in ireland and have kids in primary school or soon to be, please fill out this survey on preferences re religious involvement in schools, and whether people prefer single-sex or co-ed. It takes < 1 minute and will inform future provision. #speirgorm www.gov.ie/en/departmen...

Please fill this in Irish parents!

For reference, the two schools closest to us are single-sex and Catholic ethos. If you prefer co-ed, or are at all unexcited about the prospect of separating a load of 4- and 5-year-olds from half their peers, do say so...

Do you definitely hope the unnamed recipient is well, though?

Maybe *well, but not very well*, at least.

The future is AI vs "Nay, I"
That feeling when someone says "I love your jumper, where did you get it?" and you *finally* get to say "I made it" and they give a look of admiration.

Plug that into my feckin veins.

Justice for the "quotative like"!

And, while we're at it, the equally delicious "quotative all".
strongly believe that if you don't appreciate the "quotative like" that you have never felt true joy because you've clearly never experienced an Irish woman telling you a dramatic story
A reminder that there are still a lot of people on this planet who could probably better use the large amount of time they have on their hands.
