Told by an idiot

Yeah I use desktop to do the poll tiers, I have often longed to know the numbers without having to do that tho
tomewing.bsky.social
Wait how do you do it inside the app?
tomewing.bsky.social
It’s just ex fans playing it to hone their critiques at this point
tomewing.bsky.social
That’s not the whole story though is it, you also explicitly encouraged people to listen to THE END OF THE INNOCENCE

Fear I may be a Yallah vote splitter

Her single with them this year is amazing

That whole EP has gone, TAP is my pick too tho

Keeping a close eye on where the Arooj votes are going before I decide on which gets the HM

This is on my OTHER favourite label, the Scando jazz/folk/improv heads at Hubro Records. Trust the owl!!

More poptimistic sounds will be sneaking into this list in the next few days, I swear

#TheTwen2ie5 Day 10

41. FRODE HALTI et al - “Quarantine Quilt” (20, Norway)

I think a lot of people have a “got me through lockdown” song in their list - this is more a souvenir of it I can vibe with, a collaborative piece of improvised folk to conjure back a strange time

I read it as a teen too! Then forgot it for years until I was suddenly reminded of it a while ago by the “ghost” scenes in Interstellar

One of the problems with “no bad reviews any more” discourse is that it’s made people go “right then!” and have a very self satisfied go

This Zazou Bikaye could be from the last 15 years when this kind of fusion got fashionable again - a real gem

This is a stacked group - was almost convinced not to vote Weekend cos I think the Todd Terry Project cover is even better, but it’s too good, one of the great “on a mission” bangers. Bhundus got my bonus, Nona and Prince Charles would have scored in most other groups

If you don’t know (to vote for Mtume), now you know (to vote for Mtume)

(I like the other Cybotron track better tbh! I would like to drive a cosmic car!)

There are two famous songs about having a racist friend and this is the less good one :(

Ordered this after chatting about it with @ava.foxfort.net - of course I had to order the original welcome-to-my-crystal-shop cover
A copy of Intervention by Julian May - an eagle flies through a diamond crystal in front of a mountain range

Your hating will not alter my love for Von Dutch but it’s very funny that when Beg For You* was in the polls everyone went oh no she’s just taken a good song and done nothing with it

*also good!

I mean very obviously part of the appeal was younger audiences imagining that these songs they knew now could resonate with them at the end of *their* lives, a projection of an imagined future self onto this ancient saurian creature, like guaranteeing the test of time

(”American Recordings“ that should read - the late Rubin LP series)
tomewing.bsky.social
The thing that strikes me about him (from my v cursory knowledge) is that the line he was really walking was the one between outlaw and kitsch performance of same, like a wrestling heel, and the best American recordings are absolutely no different - somehow profound and mawkish at the same time
tomewing.bsky.social
The problem if anything is that he’s TOO cool - he’s known as an icon and the American Recordings series preserved him as a granite carved legend granting his blessings to alt-rock
