The Radiohead one is the one that sounds like Windowlicker with Thom Yorke doing his falsetto on top

Lots of bangers on this list but it’s adorably Rolling Stone that the top 4 are all twenty years old

The only way back to credibility for Taylor Swift is to make an album with Lawrence

It’s definitely true that the worst form of lapsed Swiftie is the one who thought Folklore meant she was now One Of Us, I’ve seen a few of these in the wild this week

Great art cannot be born from greed but nice designer underwear can I guess

Just an incredible take from a Guided By Voices fan

My favourite hits radio station has a feature on the breakfast show where listeners are asked to suggest songs relating to a theme of the day. When the theme was “rap”, the suggestions that the DJ read out - with a completely straight face - were: ‘Rapture’, ‘Chant No.1’ and ‘World in Motion’

The end result is that yes, doing a track called something like “Unity Of Man” with bongos on it was indeed seen as essential for the genre

In general there’s just a big upsurge of socially conscious pop post Live Aid in the second half of the 80s, and more marketing of “world music”, then with UK dance music there’s the whole thing around E bringing people together as the love drug

At any point she could head off into the woods again with a couple of indie dads and win them all back

What we don’t know is what the churn rate of old Swifties vs young Swifties is! (I don’t actually know much about the actual demographics of Swift listeners, beyond that they probably differ from Defector readers)

With Pokemon Game Freak made the (correct) call that 99% of the actual players didn’t give a shit if Deino got stuck in a cave wall, the Taylor complaints strike a bit more at the heart of the brand ie these lyrics are too embarrassing to put in an Instagram reel

As a comics fan I read “8 variant covers” and think “you child, you tiny baby”

Those eight singles from Thriller were done for the love of the game!

King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard fan: “yeah that year’s album was a stinker, wait which one were you talking about?”

There’s a bit of a the virgin Swiftie vs the chad Fan Of Literally Any Other Long Running Artist where the familiar “ok this one’s a bit rushed“ feeling becomes a huge drama and cause for ruminations on the nature of art

Emperor Hirohito could have sung along to “We Call It Acieed”

I can’t speak to her analysis of the album - there’s a bit where she’s quoting good Taylor lyrics of yore and I thought she was still quoting bad ones, which sums up my general view of TS I guess - but the wider argument is just quite weird. The 3 year album cycle is a fairly recent invention!

Ahhh well if this is me going on headlines then mea culpa (should have done that media studies degree)

Also it’s kind of weird that English, a subject so important at 16 you have to resit it until you pass is worthless at 19

Anthony Powell, author of A Dance To The Music Of Time, could have danced to the music of Eiffel 65 and the Vengaboys
