When the reckoning comes (and let’s hope it’s not after something truly horrific), Ireland is going to have to come to terms with cosying up to the tech companies that helped break *everything*. Our enabling of their bullshit is in conflict with our self image as a force for good in the world.

Beyond disgusting, and the Indo itself has helped to create the environment where this kid of behaviour is now deemed acceptable. That poor girl - my heart breaks for her. I hope with all my heart that she is well supported and that she stays playing sport.

A hearty "fuck you" to everyone involved in creating the trans panic that has led to a 12-year-old girl being verbally abused by a parent and, worse still, Irish clubs and governing bodies doing what they do best - hushing it up.

And this is why a building a "united Left" in Ireland is so challenging. SF ideologically is basically Fianna Fáil Lite, and the Irish Greens have unfathomably still failed to grasp that climate justice and social justice are irrevocably linked.
Green Party councillors voting through a rent increase for council and HAP tenants, and deleting comments on their socials that criticise them for it, is really not a good look #speirghorm

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

A reminder that this is the 10th anniversary of the passing of the Irish gender recognition act, which enables people over 18 to self-declare their gender identity, and also includes provisions for those aged 16-17. It has led to none of the apocalyptic consequences often evoked by GCs
10 years on: Trans activists reflect on Gender Recognition in Ireland
GCN spoke to community organisations and activists to reflect on the past 10 years and discuss the future of gender recognition in Ireland.

Has something happened that I am seeing lots of Twitter screenshots on Bluesky lately?

I've unfollowed people for this. We don't need that shit shared here - what does it achieve?
Think I've reached the stage where I'm going to mute accounts posting screenshots from Twitter in here. I'm seeing too much of it, and to be honest if I wanted to see stuff on Twitter guess where I'd be...?

In Ireland, there are 122 landlords with 101+ tenancies. A further 130 with 50-101 tenancies. There is quite literally no need for anyone to own that much property.

In Ireland, more properties were bought this year by landlords than by people hoping to live in them. Mostly large landlords, not the sainted mom and pops of it all. People who already own tens or hundreds of properties bought even more of them. They're not fleeing the market, they're destroying it.

This is absolutely depraved!

No citizenship if you receive social benefit is disgusting, but also if you have debt?!

Have a credit card? Need a loan for a car? Lucky enough to qualify for a mortgage?
No citizenship for you

What if this was the same for Irish abroad?

New: major overhaul of immigration laws to see citizenship denied to those who got welfare, or are in debt. Family reunification only for close family, tighter rules around self sufficiency. Changes to revoke residency for those who commit serious crimes

the Irish political and media class need to seriously reflect on how Progress Ireland could have such a crude and insulting assessment of how easy it is to just flash some cash and get your agenda on the agenda in Irish politics, and how objectively correct that assessment was
