The Life of Chuck on Netflix is already a strong contender for my film of the year*.

What an excellent film, I loved it!

The song at the end is the icing on the cake too 👌😢

* Released in 2024 but arrived on Netflix in Jan 2026.

There is no reason the Irish Gov departments can't do simular.

Excellent Gist.

I had forgotten about the Garda visit to Today FM about the Brian Cowen painting.

In Dublin, on Fenian Street, there's a factory that makes child sex abuse material.

You can pay it money, as a subscription, and that's one of the services it offers. This doesn't happen by mistake or because you've tricked or hacked the system.

It’s a feature.

Shifting focus from the failed gov for a sec, why has Garry Gannon been the only Soc Dem to publicly leave X?
(fair play to him for doing it like he did)

Why haven't Soc Dems, Labour & other left parties not held a presser to leave X en-masse, & stick it to the gov?

It's an open goal

There's the rub 🎯
Because Fine Gael were very, very able to make glossy videos about protecting kids online before - and the Government it belongs to has spent the week flustered not able to say exactly why it's not doing anything about real world harms happening on a site with a European HQ here.

'What is that supposed to mean? That the law is obsolete in the face of a white supremacist sexual exploitation material-generating machine?'

It's the first column of the new year and it's grimmer than ever before, my friends.

There's this episode of Star Trek where Captain Picard is captured and tortured, and the main way that the torturer tries to break him is by showing him four lights, and telling him that there are five.

There are four lights.

This is not a post about Star Trek.

Not by much though given the situation.

Good that he doesn't fell comfortable with the illegal content generator.

Deleting his account doesn't delete his responsibility as Minister to pursue the company, that continues to offer the product, for gross and large-scale breach of the law.

Is there any body that advocates for climate & sustainability best practices in the Irish newspapers?

I know Sustainable Media Ireland do it for Film, TV, & Radio, and that the Press Council handle disputes, sometimes related to climate coverage, but there doesn't seem to be a SMI equivalent?

One reason I feel like I'm going mad is, even if Musk did immediately halt Grok and issue a grovelling apology - rather than PAYWALLING IT - he should *still* be prosecuted and his website banned. Very obviously! You don't get out of CSAM charges by just stopping. AND HE STILL HASN'T STOPPED.
