Congratulations to Maria Corina Machado, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize - her incredible optimism has already changed her country. I spoke to her, and wrote about her, at the beginning of this year:

Maduro is still in place, but a pro-democracy movement is transforming the beleaguered country.

That's arse about face, in more ways than one.

For heaven's sake just get numbered authenticated paper ballots and give people pencils. It works and it's real and it's also great fun. Doesn't everyone hate those machines? Surely. Why can't good things just be done and bad things scrapped? Life is so depressing and frustrating and horrific too.

The Nobel Peace Prize goes to a defender of democracy and opponent of authoritarian rule. The committee's statement recounts her 20-year struggle for free and elections in Venezuela. She's brave, her life is at risk. An excellent choice. (But also a clear message that it's bedtime for Bronzo.)

I hope I live to see Trump and Miller dragged out of the Oval Office like that. #ArrestTrump

Sick. Arrest the president and his goons. Make them jointly and severally liable for damages to people and systems due to their regime, including Musk and all the oligarchs who contributed to and supported this reign of terror. There will be a dawn. They will pay. They will serve time. #ArrestTrump

Pulling up the mask. They know they're going to pay later for what they're doing against citizens for the criminal Trump regime. Arrest the president and his mobsters.

Honestly thought the aliens had landed, this bright pink light over the houses of North Co. Dublin, an hour after sunset. But allegedly it's Keelings' lights for growing strawberries off season 🍓 🤔

AI advocates fundamentally have no understanding of creativity and my God, it’s grim to behold. Even on the days when hitting my book’s wordcount target is like drawing blood from a stone, I don’t want a fucking machine to do it for me. And not just because the result would be soulless shit.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

These so-called "non-lethal" projectiles: People have died from being hit by plastic bullets / "baton rounds" and it's very easy to imagine people losing their sight if hit in the eye by vicious and unjustifiable shooting like in the attached video.
