I’ve changed my header photo to this one. It shows my father Herbert and his sister Lotte with their parents Fritz and Marta in their Frankfurt apartment before Herbert and Lotte were sent to England on the Kindertransport, and later Fritz and Marta transported to Lodz Ghetto, final fate unknown.

Right. And where should we cut first? Pension triple lock?

But, but, but … potholes don’t repair themselves …
‘This 19 percentage points gap is much larger than the 5 percentage point difference in 2022 and the 3 percentage point gap in 2010.’

I don’t know why but the US just loves detaining a significant portion of its residents. Once it was mental hospitals (558,922 in 1955). Then prisons. Now as the prison population starts to fall, concentration camps.
Prisons are for people who've been CONVICTED of crimes.

Most people in these warehouses - without proper food or sanitation or worse - haven't even been CHARGED with crimes.

And thousands are CHILDREN.

This will be another of America's greatest shames.

Hahahaha! There should be ‘astonishingly prolific and accomplished writers and artists’.

I thought that point had turned?

Funnily enough I was mulling over the phrase ‘best practice’ only today. My response always is ‘says who?’ Don’t think I’ve encountered stylised facts.

A trope I’ve noticed in books from 100 years ago is that unevidenced empirical claims are introduced with the endorsement ‘according to those best qualified to judge’. Makes me wonder if the author is talking about themself, or their chums.

Hahahaha! Can’t really claim that for myself though.

Very good!!

“The influence of a spider is limited by the size of its web.” A line from Tawney that could have been written for Epstein.

Hard to remember today that Keir Starmer is only the fourth Labour leader to win a majority at a general election (after Attlee, Wilson and Blair).

I don’t know the inclusion criteria but it looks like only about 10% of accounts are there.

Out in the BlueSky backwaters, then. Who am I with? “Left Wing Academic Intellectuals.” Close but where is “Ageing”?

There was so much talk of statistics. It was like being in an accountancy class, with frequent breaks to watch ads for junk food, cars, insurance, and nutritional supplements.

@richardpettigrew.bsky.social on p. 180 of Equality adult education is mentioned in passing as a recent innovation having 100,000 students and would have been unthinkable before 1900.

Brilliant!!

My copy of R.H. Tawney’s Equality, published in 1931, bought by University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, then sold on. I bought it in 1988, wanting to see if Tawney threw light on contemporary debates on equality. Eventually I realised I preferred his view to then current offerings.

Driver very keen to shave every micro-second off the journey. I didn’t think people did this any more in London.

Hahahaha!!

I don’t often feel car sick. But then I am in an Uber Tesla right now.

Objecting to the Super Bowl show and criticising US athletes at the Winter Olympics. You know, I think Trump might be a little UnAmerican. Perhaps someone should investigate.

Can human beings create genius level intelligence? Sure, we just need to continue having children and the occasional genius will appear.

I did watch the Super Bowl once. It was like injecting the USA directly into my veins.

A pyramid scheme made out of slop? Tricky.
To be very clear, that lady in the NYT article is not making any money with her hundreds of AI slop books.

She makes money by *convincing people* she makes money that way and getting them to pay her to teach them how to do it.

It's an evolved MLM, and the NYT is helping market it.

Well it didn’t do Jordan Peterson any harm, didn’t it? Didn’t it?
RFK Jr on what he'll eat during the Super Bowl: "I am on a carnivore diet so I just eat meat and ferments, and I'm very happy with that. So I'm probably going to have yogurt."
