Three ICC judges have been put on a sanctions list with terrorists after approving an arrest warrant for Israel’s prime minister. This is the charade of the ‘rules-based order’, says Guardian columnist Owen Jones

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

This commitment to democracy in explanatory practice ensures a maximum of explanation-seeking questions are answered. Thus, attending to the interests of explainees requires democratizing explanatory practice. I hope it's helpful! 6/7

I illustrate how these benefits are (or aren't) realized in the social sciences and analyze the conditions for successful collective inquiry. Finally, I present a Dewey-inspired account where scientists engage in a continuing, inclusive dialogue with the public(s). 5/7

Third, having a plurality is one thing; another is cultivating it to reap epistemic benefits, like enabling mutual criticism, avoiding constellations in which uncovering errors or partiality is impossible, as well as maximizing the number of explanation-seeking questions that can be answered. 4/7

The pertinence and usefulness of explanation-seeking questions and answers depend on the publics to whom they are addressed. Second, to address the different explanatory interests of various publics, science needs a plurality of explanatory formats. 3/7

The idea was to revisit my earlier work on scientific explanation and connect it to democratization ideas in John Dewey’s work. I first show explanatory practice is motivated not only by accuracy but also by adequacy—adequately addressing the interests of the explainees. 2/7

Agent Krasnov delivers…

The only one that should be grateful is Putin. It is no "peace plan", it is a capitulation plan.

Het is niet ongebruikelijk voor dictators die hun populariteit zien afnemen om ergens oorlogje te gaan spelen (teneinde een ‘rally around the flag’ effect te creëren). Trump naar gewoonte weer superbasaal.
