My way of dealing with it is as follows:

I embrace it by listening to melancholic Dutch music (eg Bløf) and watch corny Christmas movies (my guilty pleasure), but I also keep telling myself that this is seasonal and doesn’t accurately reflect my state of anxiety or despair.

I read that being online a lot makes you more susceptible to conspiracy theories… 🙄

Autumn is strange in Georgia. You go between Summer and Winter and back to Summer within the same week. Still, Autumn Blues also hits here…

If you’re struggling with Autumn Blues too, be kind to yourself! ❤️

Embrace it rather than fight it. Don’t overthink it. It will pass… 🤗

My hunch was: internal immigration has gone up in the last decades, meaning that progressive youth leave rural parts in higher numbers than previous generations.

Not sure whether this is true, but if so, it could explain part of the effect.
And what does this say about all the social media research based on Twitter/X, which has helped fuel the moral panic about the role of social media in contemporary politics?
The location ID on twitter revealing that 99% of the horrible shit on that website is just posted by people in India honestly soothed me a lot. Its literally all just fake.

Congrats! Interesting.

Haven’t read it yet, so apologies if this is discussed in the paper, but might this have to do with:

1. Normalization of far right (among youth)

2. Internal immigration (more progressive youth leave for cities)

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

A new low for Foreign Affairs.

I know people here focus on the mere 4% who use Bluesky, but note that only 1 in 5 use Twitter/X, of which 80%+ use it sparsely…

and yet, journalists and politicians treat is as “public opinion” 🤷‍♂️

Thanks, but as said, I am not really looking for an academic press.

I think that's a trade publisher... they usually don't deal directly with authors.

Simon has helped... I am not sure a true trade publisher is realistic though.

Ik schrijf in het Engels en zoek een internationaal publiek...

By the way, also still interested in a literary agent who can find a good publisher for this book idea, but that is another story altogether.

Find me a good publisher and you can read it in the book! 😂

🙏

I like that, but I fear the U.S. market is small and their connections and distribution in Europe are not as good.

I've been thinking about

Anthem Books (Impact)
Bloomsbury
Hurst

Thanks but see above.

Maybe I should have clarified the audience I try to reach is non-academic and therefore I am NOT looking for academic presses.

Ideally, I would have a publisher that helps place the book in book stores and newspapers.

In a rare moment of motivation, I am drafting a proposal for a short and accessible book (25,000 - 40,000 words) on "How Modern Football Is Killing the Beautiful Game and How Fans Are fighting Back". Perhaps not fully trade book, but not academic either.

Which publishers should I approach?

Feyenoord-NEC was a crazy, high-pace game that ended with a shocker. Much needed advertisement for the eredivisie! #FEYNEC

LOL! Using war criminal Henry Kissinger as a role model. 🤯

Then again, y’all have been living on Dick Cheney for weeks now too.

I have an article with a grad student on this, probably coming out only next year.
