Video from Trumpland!

If they shoot a praying white priest in broad daylight, knowing they are being filmed, do you really think YOU will be safe?

Two far-right authors in one day. No problem for @nytopinion.nytimes.com — and people still support them. 🤷‍♂️

And this is exactly the same movement and media that pushed Biden out after a relentless campaign about his age.
radleybalko.bsky.social
It isn’t surprising that this would be happening with a 79-year-old man. The crazy and dangerous part is that there’s an entire political movement and media ecosystem that rationalizes, justifies, and tries to retroactively validate every synapse misfire that escapes his mouth.

I know invoking Latin terms can be a bit esoteric, and "dementia" is fine and accurate, but I think there's real merit in zeroing in on the relevant legal concept: he is non compos mentis. Not just that he's a batty old man, he is debilitated in a concrete legal sense, fit for conservatorship.

Wow! I’ve never had students applaud me for grading their exams. 😳

Wonderful collection of articles on a core theory of European party politics. Congrats to all!

@dpzollinger.bsky.social and I are thrilled "Cleavage Politics in Western Democracies" is out as an SI at @wepsocial.bsky.social!

Its papers explore the foundations of the cleavage pitting new left against radical right parties, and how it compares to the classic cleavages of Lipset & Rokkan:

About 1 in 3 US Nobel prize winners are immigrants.
About 1 in 4 were government employees at some point.
About 44% of all Nobel prize winners were educated in US higher education.
As Trump demands a Nobel prize, he is destroying the means by which America came to dominate the prizes.

Two things of note in today's announcement of the 2025 Nobel physics prize (besides the work being honored).

1: The US institutional dominance of the prize continues.
2: 2 of the three laureates are immigrants, drawn here decades ago by the then-unmatched opportunities for science here...

Hang in there Mark. So sorry this is happening to you!

Solidarity with Mark ✊

Far-right harassment of academics has long been a problem across countries. Many legacy media ignore, minimize, or even facilitate it. #NoPaseran

I’ve received multiple death threats + doxing (including my home address) directly following harassment from Turning Point USA, Jack Posobiec, Andy NGO, + Fox News which called me an antifa ‘financier.’

I have been forced to move my classes online.

If journalists want to talk, DM me or reply here.

Het beste aan de twee interviews zijn:

* politici die
- vragen beantwoorden
- fouten toegeven
- nadenken over antwoorden

en

* journalisten die
- goed voorbereid zijn
- navragen

Not even talking about the lack of theory, let alone theoretical innovation, in many of these articles.

No, a hypothesis is NOT a theory!

My main problem with this is not so much the dominance of quantitative methods in “top-20” journals but rather the dominance of the exclusive use of quantitative methods — in many cases causality could and should have been established by a (nested) qualitative study. *

Great paper on the state of political science osf.io/preprints/os... by @guygrossman.bsky.social et. al. We have become more diverse, more quantitative, and more collaborative.
